Job summary

Make, a remote-first AI-first engineering agency, is seeking a Backend Engineer to help craft large-scale software foundations using AI-first techniques. You will build and maintain backend services with TypeScript/Node.js, integrate with external APIs, and write clean, well-tested code in a highly autonomous, culture-driven environment.

You will join a team of engineers who value ownership, proactive communication, and the ability to work asynchronously across time zones.

Qualifications

• AI-first mindset required.
• Hands-on experience with Cursor, Claude Code or Codex.
• Experience building at least one large-scale system from scratch.
• 7+ years backend experience.
• 2+ years Node.js experience.
• Excellent communication in asynchronous remote environments.
• Proactive ownership mindset.

Responsibilities

Location: Remote (Work from Anywhere)
Date: Short-term contract
Time Zone: Available for meetings in Central Time, with at least 2–3 hours of daily overlap
Working Hours: Full-time availability is required until end of contract
