Job summary

Standard Chartered in Warsaw is seeking an Associate Director - CDD Risk for the 2LA (Poland) team. The role reports to the Director, Second Line Assurance and focuses on delivering risk-based financial crime assurance across regions.

Job description

Associate Director - CDD Risk, 2LA (Poland)

This role could be based in GBS Bangalore, KL, Warsaw, Guangzhou. Please refer to the Job Requsition location while applying.

Assurance is a Second line defence function established under a delegated Mandate from the Group Chief Risk Officer and the Group Head of Conduct, Financial Crime and Compliance (CFCR). The primary role of Assurance is to provide a risk-based independent view to Senior Management in the business/functions, Second Line and the Board as to the effectiveness of the bank’s policies, processes, systems and controls. It facilitates identification of any gaps & inefficiencies, enabling prompt corrective action to be taken, and is a key source of evidence for the Board & Regulators.

Associate Director - CDD Risk, 2LA role reports into the Director, Second Line Assurance (2LA), FCC Risks and operates within a globally integrated and fungible operating model, working closely with others in the CFCR Assurance team to focus on delivery of Assurance reviews within the Financial CrimeAssurance remit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the delivery of a risk-based and data-driven Financial Crime Assurance strategy, aligned with the Bank’s risk profile, regulatory expectations, and internal commitments.
  • Assess the effectiveness of financial crime risk management frameworks, including oversight provided by the First and Second Lines of Defence across businesses, functions, and geographies.
  • Contribute to building a collaborative risk and control environment across the three Lines of Defence, ensuring effective issue tracking and remediation.
  • Support the continuous improvement of assurance practices through consistent methodologies, high-quality documentation, and robust evidence standards.
  • Provide oversight of the Financial Crime Assurance plan and portfolio of reviews, ensuring alignment with strategic risk priorities.
  • Maintain high-quality assurance standards across planning, fieldwork, reporting, and issue validation activities.
  • Conduct control testing and control re-testing to assess both design effectiveness and operating effectiveness of key financial crime controls.
  • Develop and execute assurance activities focused on areas of highest risk and potential impact, including thematic reviews across multiple regions.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the First Line of Defence (1LoD), Second Line of Defence (2LoD), Risk teams, and control owners to support effective assurance delivery.
  • Communicate assurance findings, control weaknesses, and testing insights to senior stakeholders through clear reporting, escalation, and remediation validation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and the Group Code of Conduct while promoting a strong culture of ethics, accountability, and risk awareness.
  • Support internal investigations and governance activities where required, including oversight responsibilities associated with appointed Associate Director roles
Skills and Experience
  • Strong assurance, risk and control testing, regulatory inspection or audit experience in Risk, Compliance and Financial Crime within a banking environment.
  • Experience leading and performing CDD reviews.
  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of banking and investment product across client segments.
  • Previous audit or assurance experience with minimum of 5 years.
  • Substantial experience in the banking industry, including demonstrated success in a similar roles, including across a range of risk areas.
  • Experience in leading transformations in risk and control testing/audit/assurance.
  • Experience in optimising processes, including via the use of technology.
  • Strong leadership qualities, excellent interpersonal skills and personal authority based on trusted relationships.
  • Experienced in building leading and motivating teams.
  • Strategic vision for the function.
  • Excellent communicator, effective leader and manager of complex, highly matrixed organizations and the ability to explain complex risk terms in business language.
  • Ability to collaborate and work dynamically across country, region, business, and group stakeholders
  • Strong drive, high levels of integrity, independence, and enthusiasm.
  • Strong expertise in data analytics, AI, automation, and technology risk management in banking.
  • Strong presentation skills and the overall knowledge, sound judgement and courage of conviction.
