Job Summary

The role of Director, Conduct and Control within CIB Operations at Standard Chartered involves playing a crucial part in the first-line non-financial risk management framework. Operating across multiple sub-divisions including Financial Markets Operations, Transaction Banking Operations, Financing and Securities Services Operations, and Lending Operations, this role is pivotal in ensuring the robust identification, management, and mitigation of non-financial risks throughout the organisation’s risk management lifecycle. The successful candidate will lead initiatives to embed Non-Financial Risk (NFR) framework principles across CIB Operations, driving collaboration with risk owners, process owners, and second-line teams. This role will focus on ongoing monitoring and thematic risk reviews designed to improve risk culture, control effectiveness, and mitigating measures. You will be expected to identify emerging risks, guide the deployment of comprehensive risk action plans, and continually enhance the operating controls to foster a risk-aware business environment. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work within a dynamic and evolving risk environment, supporting the bank’s commitment to sound risk governance and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support the effective management of non-financial risks across CIB Operations.
  • Partner with business and process owners to identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate operational and conduct risks.
  • Deliver thematic risk reviews and deep-dive assessments to identify control weaknesses and improvement opportunities.
  • Drive initiatives that strengthen risk culture, control effectiveness, and risk management outcomes.
  • Monitor emerging risks, industry developments, and regulatory changes, assessing their impact on operations.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of operational risk events and recommend corrective actions.
  • Oversee the implementation and tracking of remediation plans to address identified risk issues.
  • Evaluate business processes and controls, recommending automation and enhancements to improve risk management.
  • Use data analytics and technology-driven tools to provide insights into risk exposure, control performance, and residual risk.
  • Support and advise on Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs) and other first-line risk management activities.
  • Prepare and present risk findings, recommendations, and updates to management and governance committees.
  • Collaborate with internal audit, assurance teams, and other stakeholders on risk reviews, regulatory engagements, and control assessments.
Qualifications
  • Substantial expertise in risk management, preferably gained through roles within first line risk control, assurance functions or internal audit.
  • Familiarity and comfort with advanced data analytics techniques, including machine learning or artificial intelligence applications relevant to proactive risk insight generation.
  • Proficiency and practical experience across key non-financial risk domains, particularly transaction processing, operational risk, technology risk, and compliance risks.
  • Excellent project management skills, capable of leading complex initiatives and delivering results within challenging timeframes.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders at all organisational levels, including senior management, and effectively communicate complex risk issues.
  • Strong understanding of the Bank’s Control Framework, Committee Structure, and Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF), complemented by awareness of relevant regulatory environments.
  • Multi-cultural awareness and proven success in working collaboratively with diverse teams across geographies.
  • Project management certifications and risk management qualifications are highly desirable.
  • A degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline is required.
