of MARIA CURIE-SKŁODOWSKA UNIVERSITY in LUBLIN announces a competition for the position of Assistant Professor in the group of research and teaching staff at the Department of Plant Physiology and Biophysics at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology UMCS

The competition may be entered by individuals who meet the requirements specified in the Act on Higher Education and Science of July 20, 2018 (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571 as amended) and in the UMCS Statute of May 29, 2019, as amended.

Requirements

Research Field: Biological sciences – Biology

Education Level: PhD or equivalent

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience in the implementation of research projects and cooperation with the business environment;
  • Teaching experience in working with students and organisational experience;
  • Ability to work in a research team;
  • Evidence of active engagement in scientific life;
  • Knowledge of software for editing scientific research papers and analysing spectroscopic spectra (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Grapher, Origin, GRAMS, FluoFit);
  • Fluent spoken and written Polish and very good spoken and written English;
  • Practical knowledge of research techniques based on absorption spectroscopy (e.g., CD, FTIR, NIR), fluorescence techniques (e.g., fluorescence anisotropy, time‑resolved fluorescence, fluorescence lifetime imaging), HPLC chromatography and the application of machine learning methods to NIR spectrum analysis;
  • Experience in the use of satellite data and remote sensing tools in the assessment of vegetation condition (e.g., calculation of the NDVI index).

Polish – Excellent level

Selection Process

Application for the competition shall include the following:

  • An application requesting employment addressed to the Rector of UMCS;
  • A certified copy of the PhD diploma;
  • A personal questionnaire and curriculum vitae;
  • A list of scientific publications;
  • A list of scientific, teaching and organisational achievements;
  • A declaration of compliance with the requirements specified in Article 113 of the Act on Higher Education and Science of July 20, 2018;
  • A candidate's declaration that UMCS will be their primary workplace;
  • A candidate's declaration that they agree to the processing of personal data in accordance with Article 6(1) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR).

• The selected candidate is obliged to provide originals or certified copies of documents referred to in the application upon entering the employment relationship.

• The university does not provide housing.

• Settlement of the competition does not result in establishing an employment relationship. The employment decision is made by the Rector. The university reserves the right to close the competition without a decision.
