They perform pre‑approval and post‑disbursement verifications, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of borrower information. The role involves assessing customers’ creditworthiness, ensuring compliance with credit policies, and providing training.
What Verification Officer - MMBL does?
- Support branches to meet business targets while ensuring that credit risk is maintained at a prudent level as per policy and guidelines.
- Independent desk review of loan files received from business for accuracy & completeness in line with the credit policy & procedures; highlight discrepancies for rectification or removal before further processing.
- Participate in the branch Credit Committee for credit decisions and impart independent judgment on loan applications for approval or rejection; maintain MIS of all loan applications received, processed, rejected.
- Identify and consolidate reasons for rejection and share findings with stakeholders.
- Coordinate with branch/management to improve loan rejection rate and adopt best practices.
- Conduct post‑disbursement verifications on a sample basis and consolidate findings for sharing with Branch Management & Manager Credit Verification/Head Risk Analyst for rectification and enforcement.
- Conduct pre‑approval verification (physical or telephonic) to assess the accuracy of information provided by borrowers, cross‑verify creditworthiness, reputation and repayment capacity of applicants, and verify genuineness, reliability and completeness of loan documents.
- Verify the existence of borrowers and their businesses (economic activity) through cross‑verification of home and business addresses as per credit policy and procedures; interact with applicants and properly document observations.
- Assess customers’ knowledge of the business and purpose of the loan usage; verify and assess credit history of applicants with respect to CIR and in line with Prudential Regulation, Credit Policy and Procedures.
- Maintain vigilance, identify serious non‑compliance issues during verifications, document observations and report to line managers immediately.
- Inculcate a culture of credit compliance in line with the bank’s policy, frameworks, prudential regulation and guidelines.
- Establish a strong service culture and mindset focused on customer needs without compromising key controls and in line with credit policy, procedures and other covenants.
- Adhere to Credit Policy, Procedures, Guidelines as circulated from time to time.
- Ensure that credit policy and procedural changes are implemented in branches as circulated from time to time.
- Obtain and document exceptions as per policy before approval.
- Adhere to office timing and align activities with branch management to cope with seasonal business fluctuations.
- Provide functional trainings, capacity building and learning days to branch staff to strengthen credit assessment and monitoring.
- Perform any other assignment given by the line manager from time to time.
- At the time of onboarding goldsmiths on the branch panel, verify credentials as per bank policy.
- Conduct quarterly verification of goldsmiths and dispatch verification reports to HQ.
- Supervise gold auction process.
What are we looking for and what does it require to be Verification Officer - MMBL?
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree from a reputable institution in the fields of Business Administration, Banking & Finance, Agriculture, Economics or Accounts.
- Have 3–5 years of credit and related experience.
