NETS International is seeking a Technical Lead to own the technology behind its AI-enabled platform as it scales across partner schools. You will set the technical direction, own architecture and delivery end-to-end, and lead the development team.

This is a hands-on leadership role: you will still write code using AI coding tools to accelerate delivery. You will guide technical direction, data protection, and production-grade practices while collaborating with product, design, and the founding

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional full-stack experience, with 1–2 years in a technical lead or senior engineering role.
• Experience deploying and scaling Firebase apps and serverless architectures.
• Hands-on leadership with architecture decisions and end-to-end delivery across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own technical roadmap and architecture for a scalable AI-enabled platform serving multiple schools.
• Lead development team; perform code reviews, set engineering standards, support hiring.
• Hands-on full-stack development with React and Firebase (Firestore, Auth, Hosting, Cloud Functions).
• Architect and ship robust AI-powered features using Gemini, OpenAI, and LangChain.
• Ensure data protection with RBAC for students, coordinators and staff; implement guardrails and testing.
• Champion AI-assisted workflows for code generation and refactoring with Claude Code.
• Own testing, CI/CD and release processes; optimise performance and reliability.
• Maintain clear technical documentation on GitHub; keep codebase modular and accessible.
• Collaborate with product/design/founding team to translate vision into technical plans and timelines.

About the Role

The Role As Technical Lead , you will own the technology behind our AI-enabled platform as it scales across partner schools. You will set the technical direction, own architecture and delivery end to end, and lead our development team. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will still write code, while using AI coding tools such as Claude Code to accelerate delivery across the team.

Responsibilities

• Technical Direction & Architecture: Own the technical roadmap and architecture decisions, ensuring the platform is scalable, secure, and ready to serve multiple schools and growing student cohorts.
• Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead the development team, including associate developers. Set priorities, run code reviews, establish engineering standards, and support hiring as the team grows.
• Hands-on Full Stack Development: Lead development of complex React components and take full ownership of Firebase backend workflows, including Firestore, Auth, Hosting, and Cloud Functions.
• AI Product Engineering: Architect and ship robust AI-powered features using Google AI Studio (Gemini), OpenAI, and LangChain, moving from experimentation to core product logic.
• Data Protection & AI Safety: Ensure student data is handled securely, with role-based access for students, coordinators, and school staff. Put guardrails, testing, and monitoring in place for all student-facing AI outputs.
• AI-Assisted Engineering: Implement and champion efficient workflows using Claude Code and other AI-assisted tools for code generation, refactoring, and debugging.
• Quality, Testing & Deployment: Own testing, CI/CD, and release processes, proactively resolving bugs and optimising performance to keep the platform reliable.
• Documentation & Process: Maintain clear technical documentation on GitHub, keeping the codebase modular, clean, and accessible for the whole team.
• Strategic Collaboration: Partner closely with the product, design, and founding team to turn product vision into technical plans, realistic timelines, and weekly development cycles, and represent the technical side with partner schools where needed.

Qualifications

• Required Experience 5+ years of professional experience in full stack development, including at least 1–2 years in a technical lead or senior engineering role.

Required Skills

• Firebase & Serverless Expertise: Extensive experience deploying and scaling production-grade applications on the full Firebase suite.
• Modern Frontend Mastery: Deep proficiency in React and modern state management tools.
• AI/LLM Implementation: Hands-on experience shipping user-facing features with LLM frameworks and APIs such as Gemini, OpenAI, or LangChain.
• Technical Leadership: Proven experience leading developers, owning architecture decisions, and delivering products end to end.
• Engineering Practices: Strong working knowledge of Git/GitHub workflows, automated testing, CI/CD, and application security.

Preferred Skills

• Nice to Have Experience in edtech, or building products used by schools, students, or young people.
• Familiarity with data protection standards for children's data (e.g. UK GDPR).
• Experience with LLM evaluation, prompt testing, or AI guardrails.
• Daily use of Claude Code or similar AI coding tools.
