Job summary

Motive is seeking a highly motivated underwriting professional to join our Risk Management team. You will review and assess the financial risk of new and existing customers, while making decisions based on policy guidelines.

You’ll evaluate applications, perform analysis to mitigate financial risk, and collaborate with sales, data science, product management, and other stakeholders to deliver best-in-class customer experience.

Qualifications

• 2-3+ years of underwriting experience in financial services, fintech, or payments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Familiar with fundamentals of financial risk assessment.
• Familiar with U.S. compliance, lending & regulatory environment (KYC, Reg Z, UDAAP, FCBA, TILA).

Responsibilities

• Collect, review, and analyze applicants' financial information and records.
• Directly communicate with clients and sales about application status.
• Clearly articulate why and when additional documents are needed to determine creditworthiness.
• Make determinations to approve, decline, or seek exceptions per policy guidelines.
• Make timely, quality decisions within SLA.
• Perform portfolio management and identify suspicious items.
• Recommend policy and process improvements to mitigate failure points in underwriting.
• Bank statement analysis, financial spreading and risk ratio analysis culminating with underwriting memo.
