Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Hand over/takeover of shift information including patient files, medication charts and investigation reports.
  • Provide direct patient care throughout the shift in a calm, courteous and tactful manner.
  • Adhere to therapeutic standards to ensure quality of care and adjust care as needed.
  • Resolve patient problems and needs using multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Prepare medication requisitions and administer medications.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following procedures and regulations.
  • Adhere to infection-control policies for patients and staff; manage medication storage.
  • Assist doctors during rounds and procedures and prepare patients accordingly.
  • Carry out doctors' orders and address concerns regarding prescribed treatment.
  • Ensure unit/ward supplies are stocked and properly stored.
  • Monitor blood sugar and record vital signs, including pre/post-operative patients.

Job Description
  • Responsible for handover & takeover of incoming/outgoing shift unit/ward information related to patients, including introductions, patient files, medication charts, investigation reports, intake and output charts, etc.
  • Responsible to provide direct patient care throughout the shift and in a calm, courteous and tactful manner.
  • Responsible for assure the quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments.
  • Responsible to resolve patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Responsible to prepare medication requisitions and administrate medication.
  • Responsible to maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Responsible to protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies & protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Responsible to facilitate doctors/consultants on their rounds in the unit/ward and recording instructions.
  • Responsible to assist doctors with any procedure they may need to perform. Prepares patient physically and emotionally for these procedures and ensures the availability of all necessary equipment
  • Responsible to carry out the doctors’ orders as prescribed, and questions any concerns with prescribed treatment.
  • Responsible to ensure the unit/ward medical supply requirements are well stocked, properly stored, and readily available.
  • Responsible to check and record blood sugar.
  • Responsible to draw blood and perform other lab procedures on patients.
  • Responsible to check and record vital signs, particularly of pre-operative and post-operative patients.
  • Responsible to perform IV cannulations of patients, following Clinical IPPs policy manual.
  • Responsible to notify/reporting incidents related to patients, staff, visitors, and any untoward occurrences in a timely manner.
  • Responsible to supervise Nurse Aids, Student Nurses, etc.
