Job Description

GENERIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Report on duty in time as per schedule shift and confirm assign areas.

Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.

Monitor and document patients' clinical condition, vital signs, treatment, and response to care.

Evaluate patient condition after every intervention to know the effectiveness of given care, medication administration and review fall & cluster NCP in each shift.

Administer medications, IV therapy, and prescribed treatments safely and accurately.

Collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, pharmacists, and other members of the healthcare team.

Follow infection prevention and control practices and standard precautions.

Identify and report clinical incidents, therapeutic effects, near misses, safety risks, and adverse events.

Maintain accurate, complete, timely, and confidential nursing records.

Check inventory and report (deficiency/breakage/ non-functioning) to the immediate supervisor.

Record patients' general consumption of medications, disposables, and supplies, forward the requisition to Pharmacy, follow up until items are received at the designated location, verify the received items against the requisition, and acknowledge receipt in HMIS.

Participate in quality improvement, clinical audits, accreditation activities, and patient safety initiatives.

Comply with IHHN policies, SOPS, clinical protocols, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.

Participate in mandatory training, competency assessments, drills, and professional development activities.

Demonstrate IHHN'S mission, values, ethics, goals, and Nursing SOPEs in the performance Of duties.

Maintain professional conduct, confidentiality, accountability, teamwork, and respect for patients and colleagues.

After fulfilling the general nursing responsibilities, the Staff Nurse shall be responsible for performing the following area- specific duties, based on the clinical area assigned:

A. CRITICAL CARE

Provide specialized nursing care to critically ill and high-dependency patients.

Continuously monitor vital signs, hemodynamic parameters, and other relevant clinical indicators.

Operate and monitor critical care equipment within competency and scope of practice.

Administer high-alert medications and manage infusions according to approved protocols.

Assist with airway management, resuscitation, invasive procedures, and other critical interventions.

Recognize and promptly elevate clinical deterioration; involve multidisciplinary team if patient problem need consultation from any specialty.

B. EMERGENCY MEDICINE

Conduct or support rapid patient assessment and triage according to approved protocols.

Prioritize patients based on clinical urgency; administer emergency medications and treatments safely.

Provide immediate nursing interventions for emergency and critically ill patients.

Assist with resuscitation, airway management, emergency procedures, and stabilization.

Monitor patients awaiting admission, transfer, discharge, or further intervention.

Ensure timely documentation, escalation, and safe patient handover.

C. INPATIENT

Provide comprehensive nursing care to admitted patients according to their clinical needs and physician advice.

Timely start of bed-to-bed handover from outgoing by incoming shift staff of the unit, patients, monitoring paper files, medication, investigation reports, intake & output chart etc. and their documentation,

Conduct routine and focused assessments, monitor patient progress and shift handover for continuity of care.

Administer prescribed medications and treatments and evaluate patient response.

Coordinate investigations, consultations, procedures, transfers, and discharge planning.

Educate patients/attendant regarding diagnosis, treatment, medications, self-care, and discharge instructions.

Accompany physicians' during rounds in the unit, note order given during round & request doctor to write order in HMIS about any change in patient care management including medication.

D. LABOR & DELIVERY ROOM

Provide nursing care to women during labour, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period.

Monitor maternal and fetal condition and promptly report abnormalities,

Assist with normal and complicated deliveries and emergency obstetric interventions.

Support fetal monitoring and appropriate documentation.

Assist in immediate newborn care and support maternal-newborn bonding.

Provide education and emotional support to mothers and families.

E. OPERATING ROOMS / RECOVERY ROOMS
  • Prepare patient for surgery /procedure as per pre-op order (NPO, site preparation, chlorhexidine bath & confirm (consents signed, change of OR dress, blood arrangement, fresh IV.line, pre-op medication administration if any, fresh vital signs) completion Of pre-surgery checklist and transfer the patient on stretcher.
  • Follow Post-op order, review latest vital signs from OR, check surgery site dressing for bleeding, Cyanosis, I/V Site, surgical /any drain, maintain 1/0, and be watchful for change in vital signs/bleeding at surgery site.
F. OUTPATIENT
  • Conduct initial nursing assessment and support patient flow and clinical consultation.
  • Prepare patients for examination, procedures, investigations, and treatment.
  • Administer prescribed medications, injections, and treatments within scope of practice.
  • Assist physicians and other healthcare professionals during consultations and procedures.
  • Provide patient education, follow-up instructions, and health promotion guidance.
  • Support efficient patient flow and coordination of referrals and follow-up care.
G. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform any other task assigned by the immediate Supervisor that is commensurate with your knowledge and skills.
