Job summary

Turing is hiring a Software Engineer for the Mining team on a contract basis. This remote 5-week engagement requires 40 hours per week with at least 6 hours overlapping PST. Work focuses on transforming real-world workflows into long-horizon, testable tasks for AI agents.

You will write evaluation rubrics, validate task quality through QA, and collaborate with engineers building Python backends that simulate SaaS tools, ensuring accurate, scalable task design and execution.

• Working knowledge of GCP, Docker, virtual machines, and Harbor.
• Excellent written communication; rubric and QA writing is core to this role.
• High daily proficiency with AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) — a hard requirement.

Join Turing's frontier AI data initiative as a Software Engineer on the Mining team. In this role, you'll transform real-world enterprise workflows into rigorous, long-horizon tasks used to train and evaluate cutting-edge AI agents. This is a 5-week contract engagement requiring at least 40 hours per week with 6 hours of daily overlap with PST.

• Pressure-test rubrics to confirm they define completion precisely, grade consistently, and cannot be gamed or misread.
• Reproduce and debug failures, feeding clear findings back to task authors and connector engineers.
• Help define and improve QC standards, checklists, and processes as the initiative scales.

What We're Looking For

• Strong backend software engineering experience, primarily in Python.
• Working knowledge of GCP, Docker, virtual machines, and Harbor.
• Sound engineering judgment with a high bar for correctness — you find edge cases and ambiguity others miss.
• Ability to reason about real-world workflows and translate them into precise, well-scoped tasks and rubrics.
• Excellent written communication; rubric and QA writing is core to this role.
• High daily proficiency with AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) — a hard requirement.

Nice to Have

• Experience building or evaluating agentic/LLM systems.
• Familiarity with SaaS tools (Slack, Jira, Notion, etc.) at an API or data-model level.
• Background in data annotation, evaluation design, or QA at scale.
• Generalist backend engineering skills with the ability to contribute on the connectors side when needed.

Contract Details

• Commitment: Minimum 40 hours/week, at least 6 hours/day with PST overlap
