Blake Clough Consulting (BCC) is seeking an experienced Software Automation & AI Engineer to lead the development and maintenance of internal automation tools and AI-enabled solutions. The role focuses on creating robust, reusable software that automates engineering workflows and integrates with DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, PSSE and other tools.

The position emphasizes hands-on software engineering, securing data, and building an Engineering Automation & AI Development capability for BCC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (Electrical Engineering, CS or Software Eng).
• 5+ years in software engineering, application development or automation.
• Strong Python, software architecture, APIs, databases and testing experience.

Blake Clough Consulting (BCC) is seeking an experienced Software Automation & AI Engineer to lead the development, deployment and maintenance of internal engineering automation tools and AI-enabled solutions, improving the efficiency, accuracy, consistency and scalability of our technical delivery.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, particularly Python development, software architecture, systems integration, AI technologies and secure integration practices. Experience in electrical engineering or power systems would be advantageous.

The role will focus on designing robust, reusable and maintainable software solutions to automate engineering workflows, particularly through integration with engineering software such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, PSS®E and other relevant tools. Key areas include data processing, simulation support, study execution, results analysis, compliance assessments, reporting and quality assurance, while ensuring the security of engineering data, confidential client information and internal systems.

The successful candidate will also investigate and implement appropriate AI technologies to support engineering workflows, with the long-term objective of establishing a dedicated Engineering Automation & AI Development team within BCC.

This is primarily a hands-on software engineering and technical development role rather than a conventional power systems project delivery position.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, deploy and maintain Python-based applications and automation frameworks to support engineering and business workflows.
• Develop scalable, modular, reusable and secure software libraries, scripts and applications capable of accommodating different project requirements, equipment configurations and engineering processes, working alongside BCC engineers to understand the relevant workflows and software requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve and streamline engineering workflows, incorporating automation and AI technologies where appropriate to enhance efficiency in key areas such as technical documentation, engineering simulations, data processing and results management, compliance assessments, quality assurance and project management.
• Establish effective software development practices, including version control, documentation, automated testing, continuous integration and deployment, error handling and software maintenance.
• Work closely with BCC's power systems engineers and technical management to translate existing engineering methodologies into standardised software applications.
• Support the recruitment, development and technical supervision of additional software automation and AI engineers as the department expands.
• Explore opportunities for AI-assisted knowledge management, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and intelligent workflow automation across BCC's engineering disciplines.
• Apply secure software development practices when integrating APIs, AI services and engineering tools, ensuring appropriate protection of credentials, confidential client information and internal data.

Qualifications and Experience

Education: A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or another relevant technical discipline. A postgraduate qualification in Power Systems, Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline would be advantageous.

Professional experience: Typically, at least five years of relevant software engineering, application development or automation experience, or an equivalent demonstrated track record of independently delivering reliable software solutions. Any kind of experience in the power systems would be advantageous.

Software development and deployment:Strong proficiency in Python, with experience designing, developing and deploying scalable, maintainable software applications and automation frameworks, that ideally integrate with major power systems software. Experience with software architecture, APIs, databases, testing, debugging, Git and structured software development practices is essential.

AI technologies: Practical knowledge of AI-assisted software development and integrating large language models or other AI services into engineering or business workflows. Experience implementing AI-based technical document processing would be beneficial.

Cybersecurity: A practical understanding of secure software development, including API security, authentication, access controls, credential management and data protection, particularly when integrating external services and AI technologies.

Career Development

The position will provide the opportunity to establish and lead BCC's Engineering Automation & AI Development department, with responsibility for developing the technical architecture, supporting future recruitment and expanding the application of engineering automation and AI across the business.

The successful candidate will have significant responsibility for shaping the company's software architecture, development standards, automation infrastructure, AI integration strategy and associated cybersecurity practices, contributing directly to BCC's long-term digitization strategy.

Base Location

Our Karachi office, with Lahore also available as a base location. Flexible working, including partial working from home, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
