Job summary

Smart Working is seeking a Senior ML Engineer with deep experience in Applied AI, ML and MLOps to build and modernise an AI platform. You will focus on productionising, deploying and operating ML/AI systems, including NLP and generative AI components, with an emphasis on reliability and observability.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional AI/Machine Learning experience with production exposure.
• 5+ years of professional MLOps experience.
• 2+ years of real Applied AI experience.
• Strong Python experience, core language for this role.
• Proven productionising and deploying AI/ML applications and models.
• Experience with generative AI/LLMs and evaluation considerations.
• Hands-on experience with RAG and Applied AI techniques.
• Experience building observable ML systems with logging, monitoring and telemetry.
• Backend engineering experience to build production-ready services around ML capabilities.
• Familiarity with governance, compliance and safeguards for sensitive data and AI outputs.

Responsibilities

• Refactor, modernise and productionise existing ML models and Applied AI capabilities including NLP/generative AI solutions.
• Build new ML components and modular production-ready models.
• Develop production ML apps and services using Python.
• Create reliable ML pipelines for model integration, evaluation, deployment and operation.
• Design resilient ML workflows with error handling and retries.
• Automate model evaluation pipelines using golden datasets and quality thresholds.
• Evaluate models using appropriate metrics for outputs like generative AI and classification.
• Implement guardrails to assess grounding and hallucination in outputs.
• Contribute backend capabilities to integrate ML components into the wider app.
• Support both batch and real-time ML workloads as the platform evolves.
