Job summary

Tkxel LLC in Reston, Virginia is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the design and evolution of scalable, resilient systems across enterprise, IoT, and data-driven domains. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with strong Java depth and architectural thinking.

You will work closely with Java Architects, Solution Architects, DevOps, Product Owners, and engineering teams to design clean, secure, and scalable solutions using modern Java technologies.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience with 2+ years in leadership or architecture.
• Strong Java 17+ expertise, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, JPA/Hibernate, and REST APIs.
• Deep understanding of concurrency, JVM tuning, and design patterns.
• Hands-on with microservices, API gateways, distributed systems, and service communication.
• Experience with distributed tracing, monitoring, and cloud-native platforms (Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with CI/CD, GitOps, and DevOps workflows; exposure to IoT protocols is a plus.
• Excellent communication and mentoring skills in cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and contribute to modular, resilient architectures using Java 17+, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud.
• Drive domain-driven design, event-driven patterns, and microservices for scalability.
• Provide guidance on JVM behavior, memory, threading, and performance optimization.
• Mentor engineers on system design, code quality, and refactoring decisions.
• Architect real-time data ingestion and integration flows using Kafka, MQTT, or WebSockets.
• Collaborate with DevOps, data teams, and product owners to align technical dollars with business goals.
• Promote observability, tracing, and monitoring across distributed services.
• Support modernization efforts toward cloud-native, containerized, or serverless architectures.
