Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional data engineering experience.
• Experience building data pipelines and distributed data systems.
• Relational DB experience (PostgreSQL preferred).
• Experience with NoSQL databases.
• Experience with vector databases used in AI systems.
• Strong Python programming background.
• Ability to make architectural decisions and justify them.
• Experience building scalable backend systems.
• Experience designing data models and storage architectures.
• Knowledge of data processing performance and optimisation.
• Desirable: Spark, Airflow, Kafka, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, vector DBs like Qdrant/Milvus/pgvector.
• Desirable: Pandas or Polars data-processing libraries.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build scalable data pipelines and infrastructure for AI and product systems.
• Design and maintain data ingestion, transformation and storage for operational workloads.
• Develop batch and real-time data pipelines.
• Build and optimise systems for vector search and ML data pipelines.
• Ensure data reliability, security and governance across the platform.
• Collaborate with AI and backend teams to support training and inference.
• Implement monitoring, observability and data quality frameworks.
• Advance overall data architecture decisions and long-term strategy.
• Define culture and standards as the founding data hire and help grow the team.
