Job summary

Smart Working is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design and scale the data infrastructure powering an AI platform for property-management operations. You will build real-time pipelines, vector databases, and ML data workflows, shaping data architecture and engineering standards.

As the first senior data hire, you will define the data function, establish best practices, and help grow the team as the company expands, partnering with founders and leadership.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in dedicated data engineering roles.
• Strong Python and backend data pipelines experience.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with vector databases used in AI systems.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build scalable data pipelines and infrastructure for AI and product systems.
• Design and maintain data ingestion, transformation and storage architectures.
• Develop and manage batch and real-time data pipelines.
• Build and optimise systems for vector search and ML data workflows.
• Ensure data reliability, security and governance.
• Collaborate with AI and backend teams for training and product features.
• Implement monitoring, observability and data quality frameworks.
• Contribute to long-term data architecture decisions and strategy.
• Act as founding data hire, defining culture and hiring standards.
