Smart Working is hiring a Lead Symfony & PHP Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain core backend systems. You’ll work in an Agile team, mentoring others and shipping tested solutions that meet business needs.

This role emphasizes Symfony expertise, PHP development, and secure, scalable backend design, with remote-first collaboration across global teams and flexible hours aligned to PKT time zones.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of PHP development experience.
• 3+ years with Symfony framework.
• 2+ years writing unit tests with PHPUnit.
• Excellent cross-functional communication.
• Strong MongoDB knowledge.
• Strong understanding of OO design patterns.

Responsibilities

• Develop backend features aligned with business goals and customer needs.
• Maintain and improve test coverage with PHPUnit.
• Build scalable, testable APIs and backend systems.
• Write clean, maintainable code that meets quality standards.
• Review requirements and provide technical input.
• Collaborate with product, design, and QA teams.
• Monitor systems and respond to issues on on-call shifts.
• Break down projects and guide others through implementation.
• Participate in code reviews and offer constructive feedback.
• Continually improve processes and suggest enhancements.
• Ensure secure coding practices and document architecture.
