Job summary

NorthBay Solutions LLC is seeking a skilled Linux Administrator to manage and optimize Linux-based infrastructure. The role emphasizes hands-on Linux installation, security hardening, automation, and performance monitoring to ensure reliable, secure systems.

The successful candidate will maintain availability, reliability, and performance of Linux servers and related infrastructure, collaborating with Network, Security, DevOps, and Application teams. On-call support may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in CS/IT or related field.
• Industry-standard Linux security hardening and vulnerability remediation knowledge.
• Experience with automation tools and scripting for system administration.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux servers and operating systems.
• Perform provisioning, patching, upgrades, and configuration management.
• Implement security hardening per policies and best practices.
• Manage users, groups, permissions, and SSH access.
• Monitor health, availability, resources, and performance.
• Automate routine tasks using Bash, Shell, Python, Ansible, or similar tools.
• Maintain backups, recovery, and DR procedures.
• Document configurations and procedures.
• Collaborate with Network, Security, DevOps, and App teams.
• Participate in incident management and root cause analysis.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux servers and operating systems.
• Perform server provisioning, patching, upgrades, and configuration management.
• Implement Linux security hardening in accordance with security policies and industry best practices.
• Manage users, groups, permissions, sudo access, SSH, and system services.
• Monitor system health, availability, resource utilization, and performance.
• Troubleshoot Linux operating system, networking, storage, and system related issues.
• Automate routine administrative tasks using Bash, Shell scripting, Python, Ansible, or similar tools.
• Manage packages, repositories, system updates, dependencies, and services.
• Analyze system logs and performance metrics to identify and resolve issues.
• Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
• Maintain technical documentation, configurations, and operational procedures.
• Collaborate with Network, Security, DevOps, and Application teams to support enterprise infrastructure.
• Participate in incident management, root cause analysis, and preventive maintenance.

Required Skills

• Hands on experience with Linux administration, preferably RHEL, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux, Ubuntu, or CentOS.
• Strong understanding of Linux system architecture and administration.
• Experience with Linux security hardening and vulnerability remediation.
• Good knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SSH, HTTP/HTTPS, and NTP.
• Proficiency in Bash and Shell scripting.
• Experience with Ansible or other automation tools.
• Knowledge of Linux performance monitoring and troubleshooting.
• Experience analyzing CPU, memory, disk, I/O, and network performance.
• Good understanding of Linux file systems, storage, LVM, and permissions.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

Preferred Skills

• Python scripting and automation.
• Docker, Podman, and containerized environments.
• Kubernetes administration.
• Monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, or Nagios.
• Git and CI/CD environments.
• Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Vulnerability management and security tools.
• Infrastructure as Code and configuration management practices.

Education and Certifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• RHCSA, RHCE, or other relevant Linux certifications will be an advantage.
