Smart Working is hiring a Lead Symfony & PHP Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain core backend systems. You’ll work in an Agile team, collaborating with product managers, designers and engineers to ship scalable features and reliable APIs.

This role suits someone who leads technical discussions, mentors others, and delivers tested solutions that meet business needs in a remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of PHP development with backend focus.
• 3+ years hands-on Symfony experience.
• 2+ years writing unit tests with PHPUnit.
• Strong MongoDB experience and design pattern knowledge.
• Excellent cross functional communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop backend features aligned with business goals.
• Maintain and improve test coverage with PHPUnit.
• Build scalable, testable APIs and backend systems.
• Write clean, maintainable code meeting quality standards.
• Lead technical discussions and review requirements.
• Collaborate with product, design and QA teams.
• Participate in on-call rotation and issue response.
• Guide others through implementation and reviews.
• Continuously improve processes and security practices.
