Job summary

Relief International seeks an IT & Operations Assistant to monitor and maintain our computer networks across Pakistan. You will install and configure hardware and software and provide technical support to RI staff, working with the Regional IT Coordinator and Global IT Manager to align local practices with RI's IT strategy.

The role covers system and network maintenance, security monitoring, inventory management, user training, and infrastructure upkeep.

Qualifications

  • Graduation/master’s degree in computer sciences/IT with 3 years proven experience.
  • Ability to identify and communicate potential problems and propose solutions to management.
  • Ability to function effectively in a complex work environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the IT support ticketing system to troubleshoot users’ computer problems and deliver solutions.
  • Support RI staff to access IT-managed services.
  • Set up new users’ accounts and maintain active profiles in IT systems.
  • Follow RI Computer Standards to install and configure OS and RI software.
  • Plan and undertake scheduled maintenance to keep local computers up-to-date.
  • Manage and track IT inventory for Pakistan offices.
  • Perform network maintenance, monitor firewalls, and enforce security policies.
  • Diagnose and fix network problems and maintain printers, scanners, VoIP phones, generators and conferencing systems.
  • Monitor security alerts and ensure devices are virus-free; coordinate with Cyber Security Working Group.
  • Manage power sources and cabling; set up backup power options for uninterrupted network.
  • Complete IT training, attend webinars, stay updated on IT trends, and train local staff.

Context

Relief International (RI) is an international non-profit organization that partners with communities impacted by conflict, climate change and disaster to save lives, build greater resilience and promote long-term health and wellbeing.

Our team of more than 7,000 staff and local volunteers work in 15 countries across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, providing Health and Nutrition, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), Education and Livelihoods programming that creates the foundation for community resilience.

In Pakistan, RI works with government institutions, communities, local organizations and humanitarian partners to deliver safe, inclusive and accountable programs across protection, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), education, health, livelihoods and WASH, including programming in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Job Profile

The IT & Operations Assistant monitors and maintains Relief International’s computer networks throughout Pakistan, installs and configures hardware and software, and provides technical support to RI staff in Pakistan. The IT & Ops Assistant works closely with the Regional IT Coordinator as well as the Global IT Manager to help drive down global IT regulations and procedures to the local country offices, and ensure the Pakistan offices are in line with the RI global IT strategy.

Key Responsibilities
Accountability and Complexity
User Support
  • Utilize the IT support ticketing system to troubleshoot users’ computer problems, determine sources of issues, and deliver appropriate solutions.
  • Support in-country RI staff to access IT-managed services, and
  • Setup new users’ accounts and assist users to maintain active profiles throughout IT-managed systems
Computer Systems Monitoring and Maintenance
  • Follow the RI Computer Standards to install and configure computer operating systems and all RI software
  • Plan and undertake scheduled maintenance to ensure all local computers are up-to-date with important software and system updates
  • Manage and keep track of IT inventory for Pakistan offices
Network Monitoring and Maintenance
  • Perform regularly scheduled network equipment maintenance to ensure office networks are running smoothly
  • Monitor networking firewalls and enforce network security policies
  • Diagnose and fix network problems or potential problems
  • Maintain other networked equipment, including but not limited to: printers, scanners, VoIP phones, power generators and web conferencing systems.
Information Security Response
  • Monitor and response to security alerts associated with local users in the Microsoft Thread Response portal
  • Ensure all the local devices are free of virus/malware and the protection agents are up-to-date
  • Coordinate with Cyber Security Working Group to response to any cyber-attacks targeting local users or devices.
Infrastructure Maintenance
  • Manage and maintain Power Sources to the office, upgrade if needed. Including gas generator and renewable energy sources, if apply.
  • Maintain and manage office cabling, including power cables and network cabling
  • Setup necessary backup power options to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the network
IT knowledge and user training
  • Complete and fulfill all IT training requirements
  • Attend necessary IT webinars and seminars to stay up-to-date with changes to all IT-managed solutions
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and support best practices
  • Provide basic IT user training and orientation to local staff as needed
Maintaining Record and Inventory and record
  • Maintain filing system in Scan, soft and hard form
  • Ensure assets are functional
  • Ensure inventories are fully accounted for and maintained in a secure place

Person Specification
  • Graduation/master’s degree in computer sciences/IT from recognized university/institution candidates should have with 03 years proven experience.
  • Ability to identify and communicate potential problems and propose solutions to the level of management and then effect change.
  • Must be able to function effectively in a complex work environment, set appropriate priorities, and deal effectively with numerous simultaneous requirements.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken
