Job summary

SMEC is seeking a Head Contracts & Claims for a hydropower project in Pakistan. The role requires extensive contract management and FIDIC experience, with a focus on dams and hydropower.

The ideal candidate will lead contract administration, manage claims and ensure timely resolution while liaising with legal advisors and stakeholders across the project lifecycle. 15+ years of relevant experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 15 years of experience in contract management for construction projects, especially hydropower.
• Experience in administration of contracts, management of claims, and dispute resolution.
• Familiarity with hydropower project requirements, standards and regulations.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review and manage contracts for hydropower projects, including scope and terms.
• Ensure contract compliance with legal requirements and project specifications.
• Handle and resolve claims, disputes and contractual issues throughout the project lifecycle.
• Prepare regular reports on contract performance and claims status for senior management.
• Coordinate with legal advisors and external consultants to resolve complex claims.
• Identify risks related to contracts and claims and develop mitigation strategies.
• Maintain comprehensive records of all contracts and related correspondence.

The role

We are seeking a Head Contracts & Claims for a hydropower project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Pakistan. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in contract management, FIDIC contracts and claims resolution, particularly for dams and hydropower projects, ensuring effective contract administration, contractual compliance and timely dispute resolution.

• Develop, review, and manage contracts for hydropower projects, including scope, terms, and conditions.
• Ensure that all contracts comply with legal requirements and project specifications.
• Handle and resolve claims, disputes, and contractual issues arising during the lifecycle of hydropower projects.
• Prepare regular reports on contract performance, claims status, and potential issues for senior management.
• Liaise with legal advisors and external consultants as required to resolve complex claims.
• Identify potential risks related to contracts and claims and develop strategies.
• Maintain comprehensive records of all contracts, claims, and related correspondence.

With a track record of achievement in a related role, you will have gained your experience in a consultancy environment and have a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change and win new work.

Suitable applicants will have/be:

• Tertiary qualifications or a related discipline (e.g. BE/B.Sc in Civil Engineering or Masters in Construction Management/Contract will be given additional weightage)
• Minimum 15 years of experience in contract management, administration of construction management and claims resolution, with a focus on hydropower projects.
• Strong understanding of hydropower project requirements, industry standards, and regulatory frameworks.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
