Job summary

Proto is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to deploy AI solutions in complex customer environments. You will work with customers and Proto's Product, Engineering, Languages and CX teams to handle the technical side of new deployments. This hands-on role focuses on Linux, containers, APIs and local-language AI, with on-premise deployments and testing.

The role is based in Karachi and will support deployments across Pakistan and the wider region, with travel when required.

Qualifications

• Experience in software engineering, DevOps, solutions engineering, implementation engineering, or a similar technical role.
• Good understanding of Linux and DevOps fundamentals.
• Experience with REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, and system integrations.
• Experience with Docker or other container technologies.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Basic understanding of networking, servers, deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to work with Python, JavaScript, Bash, or similar.
• Strong troubleshooting and communication skills; able to work directly with customers.
• Travel willingness; Karachi-based candidates preferred. Experience with AI/NLP/Kubernetes is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical implementation and deployment of Proto solutions for customers.
• Configure and support cloud and on-premise deployments.
• Build, test, and troubleshoot integrations using APIs, webhooks, JSON, and other technologies.
• Work with Linux environments, servers, containers, networking, and deployment infrastructure.
• Support local-language AI, NLP, and other technical requirements for customer deployments.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate with Engineering and Product teams to resolve them.
• Test and validate solutions before production launch.
• Collaborate with CX Managers to ensure smooth handover to ongoing customer management.
• Create clear technical documentation for deployments, configurations, and integrations.
• Participate in experiments, prototypes, and proofs-of-concept.
• Suggest improvements based on deployment challenges and learnings.
• Travel to customer locations for complex deployments as required.

You will work closely with customers and Proto's Product, Engineering, Languages and CX teams to handle the technical side of new deployments. This includes integrations, infrastructure, on-premise deployments, local-language AI, testing, and troubleshooting.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, working directly with customers, and turning requirements into working solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in software engineering, DevOps, solutions engineering, implementation engineering, or a similar technical role.
• Good understanding of Linux and DevOps fundamentals.
• Experience with REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, and system integrations.
• Experience with Docker or other container technologies.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Ability to work with programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, Bash, or similar.
• Strong technical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Good communication skills and the ability to confidently work directly with customers.
• Ability to work independently in fast-moving and changing environments.
• Experience with AI, LLMs, NLP, conversational AI, Kubernetes, or on-premise deploymentsis an advantage.
• Willingness to travel when required.
