Job description

Experience: 8+ years

NorthBay is looking for talented database experts who are passionate about database migrations & modernization, adopting novel cloud & automation technologies to solve real-world problems. Ideal candidates will have solid experience/expertise with large-scale heterogeneous (different source/target) database migrations, especially involving Postgres, Oracle & AWS Database Migration Services (AWS SCT & AWS DMS).

Requirements:

• Overall 8+ years of experience involving large size heterogeneous database migrations, modernization, refactoring & optimization, especially with Postgres, Oracle & AWS Aurora.
• Expert with AWS Database Migration Services e.g., AWS SCT & AWS DMS (Especially CDC) for large dataset migrations.
• Experience with heterogeneous database migration complexities, schema transformations, challenges, and potential solutions in the real world.
• Experience with automation, especially in terms of database deployments and migrations (e.g., AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, Shell Scripting) would be a plus.
• Experience with database development and/or database code refactoring/migration involving procedural languages (e.g., Postgres PL/pgSQL, Oracle PLSQL, MSSQL TSQL).
• Proficient with database/data security best practices and solutions to compliance requirements (e.g., PCI, HIPAA, GDPR, SOC, ISO).
• Proficiency with other database/data migration solutions/tools would be a plus.
• Experience with other database platforms would be a plus (e.g., Oracle RAC, MySQL, MSSQL, Snowflake, Redshift).
• Experience in database monitoring, troubleshooting, performance diagnostics, and optimization, especially in the AWS cloud environment.
• Overall good understanding and best practices based on different types of workloads (e.g., OLTP, DWH, OLAP).
• Good analytical, problem-solving & communication skills.

Responsibilities:

• Employ customer-facing skills to represent NorthBay well within the customer’s environment and drive discussions regarding trade-offs among multiple options and potential risk mitigations.
• Work closely with Leads/Architects on all fronts (including customer) to help ensure the success of the project/migration.
• Think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges in an enterprise environment.
• Develop and execute database migration strategies and solutions including defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, security, backup/recovery, HADR based on RTO/RPO.
• Automate solutions for repeatable tasks/requirements.
• Identify potential risks and potential mitigations.
• Develop data validation plans and cases to demonstrate database readiness post-migration.
• Work closely with application teams to ensure business functionality and SLAs are met.
