Job Summary
We are seeking entry-level (L1) MSSQL & Azure SQL DBA to provide first-level support, monitoring, and maintenance of on-premises SQL Server and cloud-based Azure SQL database environments. The candidate will handle routine operational tasks, respond to alerts, and escalate complex issues to L2/L3 teams while ensuring database availability, performance, and stability.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor database health, availability, jobs, and alerts for both on-prem SQL Server and Azure SQL.
- Perform daily health checks (backups, disk space, SQL services, error logs, job status).
- Handle and respond to incidents/tickets within defined SLAs.
- Perform backups and restores; verify backup jobs and troubleshoot failures.
- Monitor and resolve failed SQL Agent jobs / Elastic Jobs (Azure).
- Manage user access, logins, roles, and basic permissions (SQL & Azure AD authentication).
- Monitor blocking, long-running queries, and basic performance issues.
- Support High Availability setups (Always On, Log Shipping, Mirroring, Azure geo-replication) at a monitoring level.
- Document activities, prepare shift handover reports, and update runbooks.
- Escalate unresolved or complex issues to L2/L3 teams.
Azure SQL Specific Responsibilities:
- Monitor Azure SQL Database / Managed Instance health using Azure Portal and Azure Monitor.
- Track DTU/vCore utilization, storage, and performance metrics.
- Monitor automated backups, Point-in-Time Restore (PITR), and geo-replication status.
- Basic support for Azure SQL configuration (firewall rules, connectivity issues).
- Raise alerts for resource scaling needs (compute/storage) to higher teams.
- Familiarity with Azure alerts, Log Analytics, and basic KQL queries (good to have).
Required Skills:
- Basic knowledge of SQL Server (2012/2014/2016/2019/2022) architecture.
- Understanding of backup/restore, recovery models, and jobs.
- Familiarity with T-SQL queries (SELECT, JOIN, basic troubleshooting).
- Knowledge of indexes, deadlocks, and blocking concepts.
- Basic understanding of HA/DR concepts (Always On, Log Shipping, Clustering).
- Basic understanding of Azure SQL Database & Azure SQL Managed Instance concepts.
- Awareness of monitoring tools (SCOM, Redgate, SolarWinds, Azure Monitor, or native tools).
- Good communication and ticketing tool experience (ServiceNow, Remedy, JIRA).
Good to Have:
- Microsoft certification (Azure Data Fundamentals DP-900, Azure Database Administrator Associate DP-300, or SQL Server certifications).
- Exposure to Windows Server and basic scripting (PowerShell / Azure CLI).
- Awareness of other cloud databases (AWS RDS).
Educational Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or related field.

- Team player with a proactive attitude.
Timings: 6PM TO 3AM OR candidate must be flexible with the rotational working hours
