Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to carry out activities required to protect the company’s interests in lawsuits filed or defended by the company.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in gathering amendments to various laws, rules and regulations from federal, provincial, divisional/district and other statutory bodies and present to the immediate supervisor for review.
  • Coordinate with SSGC departments at the Head Office to collect necessary documents, follow up on lawsuits, and finalize matters requiring input from the Legal department.
  • Prepare an initial draft regarding the legal view on referred issues/cases/queries primarily related to litigation matters within the Hyderabad region, based on existing laws, rules, regulations and related research, highlighting points that may impact SSGC. Provide case details and supporting documents to external counsel and share the company’s legal perspective to proceed with litigation.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of “Vakalatnama” for appointment of legal counsel and coordinate with external counsel to initiate and follow up on lawsuits filed by the company or where it is a respondent.
  • Develop and review drafts, briefs, replies, para-wise comments, opinions and supporting papers with external counsel, ensuring SSGC’s viewpoint and interests are accurately represented.
  • Represent SSGC at court hearings when required and participate in the preparation, vetting, publication and service of legal notices related to company matters.
  • Seek feedback from relevant departments to determine the company’s stance and assist in vetting legal documents with paragraph-wise input for risk analysis and impact assessment.
  • Represent the company’s point of view before arbitrators or in settlement discussions out of court, and maintain relationships with court officials to obtain documents and ensure smooth procedural formalities.
  • Provide updates on ongoing cases to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) during periodic meetings and assist in preparing case status reports and risk management updates.
  • Study court decisions on legal issues, evaluate potential effects on operations or pending lawsuits, and advise departmental management on options. Inform seniors about changes or amendments in laws and rules and their implications for the company.
  • Guide and support junior legal staff in developing initial drafts/replies/pleadings and review accordingly. Comply with the risk management framework and participate in risk management activities across the organization.
  • Identify, report, record and manage key risks in a timely manner and receive appropriate training in risk management.
  • Perform any other work assigned by the immediate supervisor.
