Job summary

Zong 5G in Islamabad seeks a Senior Civil/MEP Infrastructure Engineer to oversee civil, structural and MEP design for nationwide data centers, telehouses and hub sites. You will guide design governance, evaluate existing facilities, and develop capacity expansion plans.

You will review reports, prepare RFPs and tender documents, coordinate with OEMs and contractors, and ensure compliance with international standards and local codes. Requires 5+ years data center design experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• Certifications such as CDC, CDC Specialist, and TIA-942 Internal Auditor are preferred.

Job description

Job Purpose:

• Responsible for the design, planning, evaluation, and technical governance of Civil, MEP and infrastructure-related projects for nationwide Data Centers, Telehouses and Major HUB sites, including new building structures, construction, MEP infrastructure, and evaluation of existing building and facility infrastructure.
• The candidate will be part of a highly creative and efficient design team comprising Engineers and Designers tasked with solving complex infrastructure problems and developing innovative solutions.
• As a subject matter expert, the candidate will have a direct impact on the civil, structural and MEP design of Data Centers and major network sites, provide technical design guidance and vendor oversight, solve large-scale implementation issues, and develop a strong understanding of site design, capacity planning and expansion requirements.
• The candidate will be responsible for planning and design oversight of nationwide Telehouse/Data Center buildings and Major HUB sites, including structural evaluation, building safety, MEP infrastructure assessment and capacity evaluation.
• The candidate will ensure that buildings and critical infrastructure are designed and maintained in accordance with applicable international standards, local building codes, telecom requirements and Data Center best practices.
• The candidate will perform surveys and technical assessments of core sites nationwide and provide detailed analysis of the existing condition of buildings, structural systems and MEP infrastructure. The assessment shall identify required rectification, strengthening, capacity enhancement and disaster-resilience measures, including earthquake, fire, flooding, extreme weather and other natural disaster considerations.
• The candidate should have the expertise to thoroughly review and evaluate structural assessment reports, MEP assessment reports, electrical single-line diagrams, HVAC designs, fire protection systems, utility systems and other technical reports, and recommend appropriate corrective and improvement measures.
• The candidate will also be responsible for reviewing and developing RFPs, technical specifications, BOQs, scope of work, tender documents, contract documents and SLAs for Civil and MEP infrastructure projects.

Job Responsibilities:

• Prepare and review AutoCAD drawings and civil designs for Data Centers, Telehouses, Major HUBs and other critical infrastructure sites.
• Perform and/or coordinate building structural assessments, including evaluation of slabs, beams, columns, foundations, roofs and other structural elements.
• Review structural assessment reports and recommend appropriate strengthening, rehabilitation and rectification measures.
• Evaluate building capacity against existing and future requirements, including rack loading, equipment loading, battery loading, DG/transformer loading, rooftop equipment and other imposed loads.
• Ensure building designs consider relevant earthquake, wind, fire, flood and other natural disaster risks.
• Review site master plans, land utilization, building layouts, equipment rooms and future expansion requirements.
• MEP systems for Data Centers, Telehouses and Major HUB sites.
• Complete infrastructure node planning for nationwide Data Centers, Telehouses and Major HUB sites.
• Carry out periodic analysis of sites in terms of capacity, space utilization, power availability, cooling capacity, structural loading and MEP infrastructure utilization.
• Develop expansion plans based on defined capacity thresholds and projected network/data center growth.
• Identify infrastructure constraints and develop short-, medium- and long-term expansion strategies.
• Conduct nationwide site surveys and prepare detailed Civil + Structural + MEP assessment reports.
• Develop site master plans covering buildings, equipment rooms, power systems, cooling systems, fire protection, fuel systems and future expansion zones.
• Design, plan and track Civil and MEP infrastructure projects from concept through implementation and handover.
• Prepare and review RFPs, technical specifications, BOQs, scope of work, design criteria, tender documents, contracts and SLAs.
• Evaluate technical proposals from consultants, contractors and OEMs and participate in technical evaluation committees.
• Coordinate with internal departments, consultants, contractors, OEMs and other stakeholders for timely project implementation.
• Provide technical guidance during construction, installation, testing and commissioning.
• Review and approve/coordinate shop drawings, material submittals, technical data sheets, method statements, testing and commissioning procedures.
• Monitor project progress, quality, technical compliance and implementation risks. Identify and manage project dependencies and provide technical support for implementation issues.
• Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises and develop appropriate contingency plans.
• Conduct technical audits and quality inspections to ensure implementation complies with approved designs and specifications.

Eligibility Criteria (Education, Knowledge, Experience and Skills):

Education:

• In principle have a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or any other relevant degree.

Following certifications are preferred

• Certified Data Center Professional
• Certified Data Center Specialis
• Certified TIA-942 Internal Auditor

Work Experience:

• Preferably have 5+ years of work experience with 3+ years of technical civil engineering design experience in data centers
