Job summary

The British American Tobacco Group is seeking a Leaf Quality Manager for AKF to plan and ensure quality management practices across leaf processing and GLT. You will drive QA operations, ensure compliance with internal and customer specs, and coordinate sampling and testing to secure product integrity.

Ideal candidates hold a master/graduate degree in engineering or chemistry with 2–3 years in manufacturing quality roles; strong problem-solving and leadership skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Master’s/Graduate degree in Engineering, Statistics or Chemistry from a reputed university.
• 2–3 years’ experience in production management of manufacturing/processing industries.
• Knowledge of IWS and ISO systems; experience with digitization projects.

Responsibilities

• Plan, manage and coordinate Quality Assurance Operations for Green Leaf processing to meet BAT and local specs.
• Ensure compliance with BAT Leaf supplier Manual and QC protocols; sample leaves for ILPT and export buyers.
• Audit and improve quality system implementation, sampling and testing; provide timely information for decision making.
• Lead and motivate the QA team; drive continual improvement and cost-effective resource use.

Job Title: Leaf Quality Manager

Reports To: Area Quality Manager

Function: Operations

Location: AKF

Purpose Statement:

Plan & ensure implementation of Company policy guidelines & best practices on Quality Management/ Assurance Systems in Leaf and GLT to ensure Product Integrity and to deliver the Superior product to customers meeting BAT & other customer specifications.

Principal Accountabilities:

Operations/Professional/Business

• Plan, manage and coordinate Quality Assurance Operations for processing of Green Leaf to ensure that all products are processed & packed as per BAT / locally agreed specs.
• Ensure compliance with BAT Leaf supplier Manual & BAT QC protocols and arrange samples of various products ex-GLT for ILPT and export buyers.
• Plan and execute Inspection of packed leaf after processing in both factories, its data analysis and update to the team till its consumption in PMD to ensure total responsibility of product and make its consumption priorities.

Management

• Provide accurate, relevant and timely product and process quality information and analysis to support decision making.
• Audit, review and improve the application and effectiveness of quality system (including quality procedures, process information, specification management, PI&T and customer response systems
• Effective utilization of employees in the Q. Assurance to ensure accurate sampling & testing at all stages of the process.
• Develop and support the implementation and maintenance of a process based, Quality System compliant with all applicable mandatory elements of the Corporate Quality Management System; embedding the principles of consumer focus and continual improvement.

Leadership

• Lead, encourage and support team to bring creative and effective solutions to resolve issues/problems, exploit opportunities, improve efficiency of process to achieve better quality
• Recognize and celebrate individual and team accomplishments to nurture a winning culture.

Relationship

• Establish & maintain cordial relationship and strong communication with customer (PMDs, Export Customers, blending team) and set collective physical parameters of the product for better understanding and meeting their expectation.
• Organize forums to educate shop floor employees on quality system, performance and various initiatives.

Innovation

• Design, plan and implement new trial and experiments to continuously improve product quality
• Participate in materials, process and product development projects to ensure process and product quality performance requirements are met.

Additional Information:

i. Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

• A Master degree in Statistics, Chemistry or Graduate degree in Engineering from any reputed university with 2-3 years of experience in production management of a manufacturing / processing industry.
• Practical competence in analysis, problem solving and continual improvement methods and techniques (including SPC, brainstorming, fishbone diagrams).
• Leadership skills with the capacity to influence within and across departments and levels of the organization.
• Knowledge of IWS, ISO systems and driving digitization projects.
• Understanding own product performance in relation to consumer product quality requirements, competitor activities and market developments.
• Applied knowledge of Quality Management Systems and Corporate quality tools and measures.
• Influencing /negotiation skills in developing partnerships with external stakeholders.

ii. Key Success Factors:

• Evidence of meeting customer/ consumer perceived quality requirement.
• Effective and sustained deployment of the Quality Management System including embedded principles of continual improvement and compliance to regulatory requirements and all applicable mandatory elements of the IWS Quality Pillar.
• Compliance to BAT Quality Control Protocols
• Cost-effective use of resources giving best results
• To keep the Leaf Quality staff at the highest level of motivation in order to achieve best performance level.
