Job summary

PM Consulting seeks an Application Engineer to support Workday Payroll with exposure to modules such as Benefits, Compensation, Talent Management, Absence Management, Time Tracking, Integration, Security and Data Conversion. The role sits in an Agile-driven team responsible for keeping critical applications running while evolving them to meet business needs.

You will configure, customize, and integrate third-party software with internal systems, deploy and maintain applications, and troubleshoot

Qualifications

• Hands-on exposure to at least one Workday area (Payroll or related modules).
• Experience with Workday tools: Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, PICOF/PECI, or Workday Web Services.
• Working knowledge of one or more Workday modules: Core HCM, Benefits, Compensation, Talent, Absence, Time Tracking, Integration, Security, Data Conversion.
• Comfort with scripting for workflow automation and/or experience with low-code platforms.
• Payroll or related Workday module experience is a plus.
• Solid grounding in software engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the go-to specialist for Workday Payroll and related modules.
• Support the full software development lifecycle for assigned business applications.
• Configure, customize, and integrate third-party enterprise software with internal systems (e.g., SAP).
• Deploy and maintain business applications, including minor code updates, debugging, and enhancements.
• Build functional knowledge of business processes to translate requirements into practical solutions.
• Work within a cross-functional DevOps team using Agile practices.
• Provide day-to-day operational support: troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, resolve issues, monitor system performance.
• Monitor data loads and interfaces, administer system security, and flag performance improvements.
• Collaborate with engineering peers to resolve system issues and maintain clear support documentation.
• Help ensure ongoing compliance with IP and licensing requirements across systems.

About the Role

Our client, a growing organization with a mature enterprise technology environment, is looking for an Application Engineer to provide specialized support for its Workday Payroll function, with additional exposure to related Workday modules such as Benefits, Compensation, Talent Management, Absence Management, Time and Attendance Tracking, Integration, Security, and Data Conversion.

This role sits within an integrated, Agile-driven support team responsible for keeping business-critical applications running smoothly while continuously evolving them to meet changing organizational needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the go-to specialist for Workday Payroll, and/or related modules such as Benefits, Compensation, Talent Management, Absence Management, Time and Attendance Tracking, Integration, Security, and Data Conversion
• Support the full software development lifecycle for assigned business applications
• Configure, customize, and integrate third-party enterprise software with internal systems (e.g., SAP)
• Deploy and maintain business applications, including minor code updates, debugging, and enhancements
• Build strong functional knowledge of relevant business processes to translate requirements into practical, implementable solutions
• Work within a cross-functional DevOps team using Agile practices, with an emphasis on structured change management
• Provide day-to-day operational support: troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, resolve issues, implement configuration changes, and monitor system performance
• Respond promptly and proactively to production issues while maintaining a strong customer-service orientation
• Monitor data loads and interfaces, administer system security, and flag opportunities for performance improvement
• Collaborate with engineering peers to resolve both immediate and longer-term system issues
• Create and maintain clear support documentation
• Help ensure ongoing compliance with intellectual property and licensing requirements across systems and software

Required Qualifications

• Hands-on exposure to at least one of the following technology areas:
  • Workday tools such as advanced custom reporting, EIB, Core Connectors, PICOF/PECI, Workday Studio, or Workday Web Services
  • ServiceNow capabilities such as HR Service Delivery (case and knowledge management), system administration, portal/widget configuration, or REST/SOAP integrations
  • Working knowledge of one or more Workday modules: Core HCM, Benefits, Compensation, Talent, Absence, Time Tracking, Integration, Security, or Data Conversion
  • Comfort with scripting for workflow automation, and/or experience with low-code development platforms
  • Specific skill in Payroll, or in related Workday modules (Benefits, Compensation, Talent Management, Absence Management, Time and Attendance Tracking, Integration, Security, Data Conversion)
  • Solid grounding in software engineering fundamentals
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Sharp analytical and problem-solving abilities, with persistence in working through complex issues
• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision, while taking ownership of outcomes
• Composed and clear-thinking under pressure, and adaptable to shifting priorities
• Strong organizational and planning skills, comfortable moving between big-picture and detailed work across multiple concurrent priorities
• Familiarity with Agile delivery frameworks such as SAFe, Kanban, or Scrum
• A plus: hands-on experience with two or more of the following — C#, C++, Angular, Node.js, SQL, Ansible, R, Java, Python, Azure, web services (WCF/RESTful), front-end web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX), or Oracle/SQL Server
