Qualifications

- Proficient in Premiere Pro; able to use After Effects for motion graphics.

Position Title: Video Editor
Work Set-up: Work From Home

Salary: 40,000-75,000
We are looking for a creative, passionate, and highly experienced Video Editor to join a Sydney-based video production studio that tells powerful stories for brands and charities.
This role is responsible for transforming raw footage into compelling, emotionally engaging videos, ranging from documentary-style charity films and brand stories to corporate, product, event, and social media content. The successful candidate will work closely with producers to deliver high-quality edits that align with client briefs, creative direction, and delivery timelines.
Beyond technical editing skills, the ideal candidate is a natural storyteller who understands how to connect with audiences through visual content. This person will also contribute to developing best practices, improving editing workflows, and helping systematise the studio's production processes.
You are a creative and detail-oriented professional with a strong understanding of visual storytelling, pacing, and audience engagement. You can independently manage editing projects from raw footage through to final delivery, exercise creative judgement, and translate producer feedback into polished outputs with minimal revisions. You are highly proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro, confident working with After Effects, and resourceful in using editing tools, templates, and AI solutions to improve efficiency without compromising creative quality. You take ownership of your work, communicate effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced creative environment.
- Edit raw footage into polished, engaging videos, including brand stories, charity films, corporate and product videos, event videos, and short-form social media content.
- Lead the editing of emotional, story-driven projects, developing compelling narratives from interview footage and capturing the key messages and emotional moments of each story.
- Review and organise footage to identify the strongest content and build cohesive, engaging narratives.
- Research each client's brand, website, target audience, and creative direction before commencing projects to ensure alignment with their identity and objectives.
- Deliver strong first cuts and incorporate producer feedback through to final approval and delivery.
- Bring creative ideas to projects and recommend improvements to storytelling, pacing, structure, and content formats.
- Select and edit music, sound effects, graphics, and titles in line with the studio's creative standards and client brand guidelines.
- Create motion graphics, animated titles, and visual effects using Adobe After Effects when required.
- Perform professional colour correction, colour grading, and audio mixing to ensure consistent output quality.
- Export and deliver final videos in the appropriate formats, resolutions, and aspect ratios for web, social media, and broadcast platforms.
- Maintain a strong sense of visual rhythm, pacing, music selection, sound quality, and overall presentation.
- Manage editing projects independently, ensuring deadlines, quality standards, and client requirements are consistently met.
- Maintain organised project files, footage, and creative assets within the team's cloud storage and ensure appropriate file management and backups.
- Use AI tools, editing plugins, and template libraries such as Mister Horse where appropriate to streamline editing processes and improve turnaround times.
- Identify opportunities to improve editing workflows, establish best practices, and help systematise the studio's production processes.
- Maintain awareness of project progress, timelines, and potential blockers, communicating these clearly to producers.
- Work closely with producers and the in-house editing team to deliver projects that meet creative expectations and production requirements.
- Provide editing support to the team, particularly during busy production periods and team leave.
- Share editing knowledge, techniques, and best practices with other editors to maintain consistent quality standards.
- Keep up to date with emerging editing trends, techniques, software updates, and new Adobe Premiere Pro features.
- Take ownership of assigned projects while remaining flexible and collaborative when supporting wider studio requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Film, Multimedia Arts, Communications, or a related discipline is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a Video Editor, ideally within a video production company or creative agency.
- Experience working with Australian companies or Australian clients is strongly preferred.
- Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro is required.
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe After Effects for motion graphics, titles, and animation.
- A polished portfolio or showreel demonstrating storytelling capabilities across documentary-style films, brand stories, corporate videos, and social content.
- Proven experience editing interview-led content and developing emotionally engaging narratives.
- Strong understanding of video pacing, music selection, sound design, colour correction, colour grading, and visual composition.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality first cuts and complete revisions efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Experience working with health, not-for-profit, or charity organisations is an advantage.
- Familiarity with editing template libraries such as Mister Horse and practical knowledge of AI tools that improve editing efficiency.
- Excellent English communication skills, with the ability to understand creative briefs, receive feedback, and implement revisions promptly.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate creative judgement, and take ownership of projects from start to finish.
- A genuine passion for video production, creativity, and storytelling.
- Consistently deliver high-quality video edits that meet client briefs, creative standards, and agreed deadlines.
- Produce compelling first cuts with strong storytelling, pacing, and visual presentation.
- Demonstrate expert working proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and practical capability in After Effects.
- Complete revisions efficiently and minimise unnecessary editing rounds through attention to detail and creative judgement.
- Maintain organised project files, footage, and assets within the team's cloud storage.
- Communicate project updates, timelines, and potential challenges clearly and proactively.
- Contribute to improved editing workflows, production efficiency, and consistent team standards.
- Demonstrate effective collaboration with producers and other members of the editing team.
