Job summary

Manulife Philippines is seeking an Underwriting Analyst3 responsible for equitable and sound underwriting decisions on all applications submitted, within turnaround time. The underwriter protects the company against uninsurable risk and helps achieve growth and financial goals.

The role requires completing documents, classifying risk, coordinating medical and AML checks, and collaborating with senior underwriters, medical consultants, and distributors.

Qualifications

• Graduate of Bachelor's Degree in either Social Science/Sociology, Medical Science, Nursing or its equivalent.
• Has relevant Underwriting experience from Life Insurance Industry.
• Strong Leadership Skills with experience in supervising a team.
• Strength of character to provide recommendations or communicate issues.
• Ability to effectively collaborate with the team and other departments.
• Preferably with LOMA, AALU, FALU certifications.

Responsibilities

• Check for completion of documents submitted.
• Sort and match requirements for underwriting.
• Classify occupation, assess the build, family history, financial, residential/geographical risk, and medical information.
• Order requirements to assess risk, i.e. Medical Examination, APS, blood test.
• Document the above information in CAS underwriting notes.
• Conduct AML checks and, when result is positive, liaise with NB's AML Officer or Chief Underwriter.
• Discuss complex cases with more senior underwriter or medical consultant.
• Underwrite medical and complex cases, including ECI and HIB within the approval authority.
• Underwrite medical and complex cases, including ECI and HIB referred by more junior underwriters.
• Underwrite medical and complex cases, including ECI and HIB beyond the approval authority with the proposed underwriting decision to be approved by the Team Leader or underwriter with higher authority limit or the Chief Underwriter.
• Possess basic knowledge of all insurance plans, riders, policy provisions and company policies.
• For sub‑standard cases, provide the loading and generate rated proposal and letter. Update NB Tracking System and inform distributors on the underwriting decision through Inotify mail.
• Prepare declined, postponed/deferred letter to include the refund check, if applicable.
• Report impairments to the Medical Information Bureau (MIB).
• Handling of inquiry cases. Check completeness of submitted documents, conduct alpha search and consolidate total risks, assess cases and forward notice requirement to agents thru email. When payment is made for cases with final decision, information will be encoded in CAS (NB Admin) and case will be issued.
• Ensure all pending cases are properly filed on daily basis
