Job summary

SMEC is seeking a Project Inspector (Tunnels) to provide on-site inspection and technical oversight of tunnel construction on behalf of the Owner’s Engineer (OE). You will ensure works conform to approved drawings, project specs, quality standards, safety regulations and contract obligations.

Responsibilities include regular site inspections, verifying compliance, using checklists and quality plans, tracking progress, maintaining site diaries and preparing progress reports for OE and client

Qualifications

• Experience in tunnel construction activities and safety compliance.
• Experience conducting inspections of infrastructure projects and addressing non-conformances.
• Ability to collaborate with contractors/engineers to resolve technical issues.
• Experience inspecting underground structures including lining and support works.
• Knowledge of ground behaviour and geotechnical monitoring related to tunnels.
• Knowledge of local and international tunnelling codes and standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular on-site inspections of tunnelling works.
• Verify compliance with approved drawings, technical specs, and quality standards.
• Use checklists and quality plans to guide inspections and identify deviations.
• Track and document progress against the construction schedule.
• Maintain daily site diaries and prepare detailed progress reports for OE and client teams.
• Engage with contractors, consultants, and project team members to exchange technical information.
• Clarify site issues and coordinate activities to prevent delays or conflicts.
• Participate in site meetings and coordination reviews.
• Support the OE team in reviewing contractor-submitted method statements, ITPs, materials approvals, and technical documents.
