Job Summary

The Dispatch Optimization Model (IRESS) Engineer will manage our integrated solar and BESS optimization model. This role is critical in maximizing asset revenue by generating accurate, market-aligned dispatch strategies based on price forecasts, irradiance forecasts, contractual obligations, and plant constraints. The role sits at the intersection of commercial, technical, and digital systems and will report to the Head of Commercial and Revenue.

Senior Operations Research/Optimization scientist with experience in LP/MILP, mathematical modelling and Python-based optimization (preferably with energy/power systems, power markets, or BESS experience)

Job Responsibilities

1. Dispatch Optimization Model Ownership & Commercial Performance

• Own the end-to-end optimization and dispatch model, including logic, assumptions, and constraints
• Ensure outputs are aligned with revenue maximization objectives (e.g., contract compliance, energy arbitrage, opportunity capture)
• Conduct lookback and review activities to continuously evaluate model performance vs. actual revenues, market prices, and plant outcomes

2. Commercial Strategy Integration

• Coordinate with the commercial/trading team to translate commercial strategies (e.g., bidding behavior, contract positions, etc) into model inputs and constraints
• Provide support to revenue forecasting, scenario analysis, and sensitivity studies (e.g., price volatility, contract changes, BESS cycling strategies)

3. Data, Systems & IT Integration

• Work with commercial/trading and operations teams to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of key inputs (price forecasts, irradiance, plant constraints, contractual parameters etc)
• Work with IT/Project team to integrate the model with internal platforms (e.g., SCADA, EMS, trading systems) including API connectivity and data pipelines for automated ingestion of inputs and dispatch outputs

Qualifications:

• Candidates with strong quantitative background; Completed (preferred) or currently pursuing a master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Data Analytics, Electrical or Energy Engineering, or a related field.

• Advanced knowledge of mathematical optimization, statistics, and quantitative modeling techniques.

• An advantage (but not required) if they can present previous projects or research demonstrating the application of optimization techniques to real-world problems.

• Strong understanding of electricity market dynamics and revenue drivers (e.g., arbitrage, ancillary services, contract structures)

• Strong knowledge or experience in BESS and integrated solar/BESS power plants is an advantage

• Proficiency in analytical tools and scripting languages; advanced proficiency in MS Excel3–5+ years experience in power systems, energy markets, or optimization/analytics
