Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Telephone System Installer/ Technician to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs telecom systems and equipment, with experience in telephone systems, structured cabling, and VoIP.

You will travel internationally and work within strict safety and quality standards. Candidates must have 2-4 years of hands-on telecom experience, read technical schematics, and pass medical/security requirements for deployment to BIOT.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2-4 years of hands on experience installing, repairing, and maintaining telecommunications systems.
• Experience with telephone switching systems and VoIP technologies.
• Proficiency in cabling, wiring, and telecommunications troubleshooting techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical schematics.
• Problem solving and analytical skills.
• Great communication and customer service.
• Proficiency with computers and telecommunications testing equipment.
• Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
• Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
• Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
• Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout deployment.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
• Must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain telephone systems, cables, and telecommunications equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair telephone lines, communication systems, and network connectivity issues.
• Perform system testing, diagnose faults, and verify equipment operates within specifications.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections to minimize equipment failures.
• Install new telephone lines, structured cabling, wiring, handsets, modems, and related devices.
• Route and terminate cabling to exchange equipment and terminal outlets.
• Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, maintenance activities, and equipment inventory.
• Respond to service requests and complete installations, upgrades, and repairs in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with contractors and technical teams on telecommunications infrastructure projects.
• Train users on telecommunications equipment and system operation as needed.
• Ensure compliance with applicable industry, military, and safety standards.
• Stay current with emerging telecommunications technologies and best practices.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
