Job summary

Telstra is seeking a Technical Expert to design and build scalable data platforms and integration solutions. You will own the full lifecycle from ingestion and transformation to delivery of analytical outputs and reusable assets that enable informed decisions across the business.

Job Summary

This is a technically focused role responsible for designing and building scalable platform and integration solutions that support both strategic and operational priorities. You will own the full lifecycle from source system ingestion and transformation through to delivery of high-quality analytical outputs and reusable technical assets that enable informed decision making across the business. Working across Azure platforms and leveraging your expertise in data, automation, and service management, you will build and maintain technical solutions, implement quality and governance controls, and develop reusable assets. The role also carries a strong advisory element you will represent the team in architecture reviews, governance forums, and change advisory processes, provide technical guidance across delivery and business teams, and ensure our technical foundations remain robust, scalable, and fit for purpose.

Modelling & Design

• Work with stakeholders to understand what information is needed, where it comes from, and how it should flow
• Profile and assess source systems and outputs to understand quality, gaps, and usability
• Design logical and physical models that support reporting, analytics, and downstream consumption
• Define how information flows end to end from source systems through transformation layers to final outputs
• Maintain clear documentation of lineage, mappings, and transformation logic

Engineering & Automation

• Build and maintain pipelines using tools like Azure Data Factory, Databricks, or similar Azure technologies
• Implement quality checks, validation, and alerting rules to ensure outputs are accurate and reliable
• Automate repetitive processing tasks to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency
• Work with platform and engineering teams to integrate inputs from multiple sources including APIs, databases, and flat files
• Continuously improve how information is ingested, processed, and delivered

Analytics & Technical Products

• Own the build of gold-layer analytical outputs and reusable technical products for business and AI models
• Design and deliver reusable components that teams across the business can leverage
• Work with AI and engineering teams to integrate outputs from models into production environments
• Define and track KPIs and success metrics aligned to business outcomes
• Use insights to identify trends, flag risks, and highlight opportunities

Technical Advisory & Governance

• Represent the team in architecture reviews, design forums, and governance boards
• Provide technical guidance to business and delivery teams on platform and integration decisions
• Work with partner and vendor teams to ensure requirements and integration points are clearly defined and delivered
• Proactively flag risks, blockers, and opportunities to keep delivery on track
• Implement and maintain security controls including role-based access (RBAC) and masking aligned to regulatory requirements

About You

• Must-Have Experience in engineering, analytics, or a similar technical role
• Strong experience in modelling, profiling, and designing end-to-end pipelines and transformations
• Advanced SQL and PySpark skills for complex queries, optimisation, and large-scale processing
• Proficiency in Python for processing, automation, and scripting
• Experience building and managing pipelines using Azure platforms (ADF, Synapse, Databricks, ADLS)
• Working knowledge of ETL/ELT patterns, warehousing concepts, and governance principles
• Familiarity with API integrations and multiple source systems
• Strong problem-solving skills with a technical mindset
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with DevOps practices (CI/CD pipelines, version control for assets)
• Nice-to-Have Exposure to machine learning workflows and MLOps
• Nice-to-Have Exposure to Microsoft Fabric
• Nice-to-Have Knowledge of Power BI
• Nice-to-Have Familiarity with governance frameworks and metadata management tools
• Nice-to-Have Knowledge of Agile delivery methodologies
• Nice-to-Have Experience with tools like JIRA, Confluence, or similar
• Nice-to-Have Experience with real-time ingestion and stream processing
• Nice-to-Have Familiarity with Lakehouse architecture patterns and Delta Lake
