Job summary

Andalusia Health in Andalusia, AL, a Joint Commission–accredited 88-bed hospital, is seeking a Director of Emergency Department to provide strategic and operational leadership for all emergency services. The role partners with nursing leadership and physicians to deliver timely, high-quality care and drive performance improvement.

Ideal candidates have RN licensure, BLS/ACLS/PALS where required, and 5+ years of nursing with 2+ years in leadership.

Qualifications

• RN license in state of practice required
• BCLS certification required at hire or within timeframe
• ACLS and PALS may be facility-specific requirements
• 5+ years of progressively responsible nursing experience
• 2+ years of leadership or management experience in acute or emergency care

Responsibilities

• Provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for Emergency Services and patient care 24/7.
• Sets departmental goals, policies, procedures, and standards aligned with evidence-based practice.
• Ensures compliance with laws, regs, accreditation standards, and hospital policies.
• Monitors quality, safety, and performance metrics and leads corrective actions.
• Optimizes triage, patient flow, throughput, transfer, and discharge processes with stakeholders.
• Oversees staffing, scheduling, orientation, competency, performance, and development.
• Manages operating and capital budgets; monitors productivity and resources.
• Collaborates with ED medical director and staff to ensure consistent practice.
• Ensures readiness for high-risk events and disaster response.
• Promotes safety culture, accountability, engagement, and continuous learning.
• Addresses concerns and drives timely follow-up and issue resolution.
• Represents ED on committees and supports strategic planning and program development.
