Position Summary
The Storage Engineer I is responsible for completing work on major, complex projects with full competency. The role includes coordination with technical and non‑technical staff and vendors, performing analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex problems on both physical and virtual infrastructure platforms, recommending, implementing and documenting corrective solutions, monitoring performance metrics within the Data Protection and Storage environment, evaluating and recommending new technology solutions, and providing support and guidance to IT across the Mercy Health enterprise. The position requires documentation of work through policies, standards, and knowledge base articles, and adherence to defined standards and policy while ensuring successful delivery of work both independently and in collaboration with various teams.
Responsibilities
- Provide training and mentoring on technologies to peers and colleagues.
- Engage with vendors for tier 2 and tier 3 troubleshooting, providing resolution and remediation.
- Evaluate, test, and perform impact analysis for software and firmware updates.
- Monitor and tune the system to achieve optimum performance levels in standalone and multi‑tiered environments.
- Conduct system analysis, configuration management, and develop improvements for system performance, availability, and reliability.
- Provide in‑depth diagnosis for storage and backup systems (software/hardware failures) and develop procedures for working tasks.
- Perform tasks related to the operation, servicing, troubleshooting, and administration of platform technologies: SAN Fabric components, Fiber‑attached configurations, Rubrik Data Retention and Archival Storage Reporting, Virtual/Logical platforms management, NAS file permissions, SMB and NFS protocol configurations and administration, hardware break‑fix coordination, High Availability and Clustered configurations.
Position Requirements (Technical Skills)
- 2+ years of experience in Enterprise Storage Engineering.
- High understanding of Rubrik Backup/Recovery solution.
- Working knowledge of de‑duplication and compression technologies.
- Working knowledge of VMWare VADP and VCB backup APIs.
- Working knowledge of EMC PowerMax storage systems.
- Working knowledge of Enterprise Dell PowerScale NAS solution.
- Working knowledge of Cisco MDX SAN fabric technologies.
- Working knowledge of NetApp Data ONTAP AFF storage systems.
- High understanding of virtualized data center architecture and components.
- Working knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems.
- Experience with SAN and NAS storage monitoring and health reporting.
- Strong understanding of server backup and recovery methodologies.
- Experience with enterprise‑class infrastructure environments.
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment.
- Ability to author technical documents and create procedure manuals.
- Strong interpersonal skills, oral communication skills, and proven analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Strong understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Ability to conduct research into current and future technologies.
- Highly self‑motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
- Healthcare knowledge/background including data privacy practices and laws.

Education and Experience
College diploma or university degree in computer science, telecommunications, information sciences, or related field, and/or 2+ years of equivalent work experience.
