Job Summary

A Staff Nurse provides support to the healthcare team by addressing the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of patient care related to the services of the unit, which will cover a wide patient demographic with assignments and rotations in medical-surgical, neonatal / pediatric, ob-gyn, specialized care, critical care, emergency, out-patient, isolation, medical ancillary units, etc.

At this level, the incumbent works on familiarizing him/herself with the services of the unit. S/He also participates in the continuous improvement of quality of service in the department, and performs other duties as directed by the immediate superior.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Performs head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy.
• Provides appropriate care to the patient population served; interprets data about their condition to identify each patient’s specific needs.
• Develops and implements an individualized plan of care and adjusts the plan according to the patient’s response to treatment. Ensures effectiveness of the treatment with regular evaluation.
• Conducts health education to patients and significant others; facilitates discharge planning.
• Interprets and implements physician’s orders: performs treatments according to accepted standards and department policies; evaluates and documents effectiveness of treatments and interventions.
• Implements infection control practices.
• Identifies and addresses psychological, cultural, ethnic, and religious / spiritual needs of patients and their families and involves patient and family in the formation of plan of care.
• Assists in cost containment by ensuring the efficient requisition / utilization of supplies and equipment.
• Monitors the functional status of medical equipment and alerts the Charge Nurse and/or Head Nurse accordingly for any needed maintenance / repairs.
• Maintains patient clinical files; keeps charts updated.

Qualifications

1. A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
2. Possess a valid license from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) as a Registered Nurse.
3. Current certificate in Basic Life Support Training (BLS) is a plus.
4. Current member of good standing of the following associations:
   a. Philippine Nurses’ Association (PNA)
   b. Operating Room Nurses Association of the Philippines (ORNAP) – preferred specifically for Eye Institute, Operating Room, and Delivery Room Nurses
5. Possess excellent patient care knowledge and ability.
