Helius is hiring a Staff Backend Engineer to own one of our core systems—Gatekeeper, Data Streaming, Historical APIs, or Account Index—sitting at the intersection of performance and scale. You’ll define architecture and set technical direction with founders and leadership, owning your domain end-to-end.

You’ll mentor engineers, drive cross-team initiatives, and raise the bar for reliability, observability, and operational excellence in a fast-moving, remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering with a track record building large-scale, production-grade systems.
• Deep systems-level expertise where software meets hardware.
• Proficiency in Rust (strongly preferred) or C++, Go.
• Ability to own and evolve complex systems end-to-end, from architecture to production operations.
• Experience leading ambiguous, cross-team technical initiatives and driving them to completion.
• Performance engineering instincts: profiling, root-cause analysis, and optimization.
• High ownership and intensity; thrive in fast-moving environments with high standards.
• Exposure to operational excellence, performance, and customer reliability at scale.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction for a core backend system—architecture, reliability, performance, and roadmap.
• Design and implement solutions to hard problems in distributed systems, storage engines, streaming pipelines, or edge infrastructure.
• Drive performance engineering across your system, profiling and pushing latency and throughput.
• Set standards for observability, incident response, and safer operation of systems.
• Partner with founders and engineering leadership on long-term technical strategy.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, drive consensus, and influence without authority.
• Identify and solve complex, ambiguous problems spanning multiple systems.
