Job Overview
Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware, and equipment to a comprehensive provider of industry‑leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. The segment is classified into two main product groupings: carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group focuses primarily on optical‑based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data, and voice communications. The enterprise network product group focuses on providing optical‑based communication networks to businesses, governments, and individuals for their own use.
Scope and Purpose of Position
- The Application Database Developer is responsible for design, development, optimization, and maintenance of database objects that directly support application functionality, acting as a link between application development and database administration.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and optimize stored procedures, functions, triggers, packages, and other database objects.
- Work closely with application developers, DBAs, and business stakeholders to deliver high‑quality database solutions that enhance application performance and support enterprise‑wide reliability.
- Provide off‑hours support when required for critical production issues.
- Perform database object performance reviews as per customer needs.
- Identify and drive improvement efforts related to the database portfolio, using expertise and leadership experience.
- Participate in Change Advisory Board and provide guidance on database governance.
- Perform problem resolution for complex issues, including root cause analysis and outlining resolution options.
- Analyze slow‑running queries and identify bottlenecks using execution plans.
- Recommend and implement indexing strategies; perform root cause analysis on data‑related performance issues.
- Promote SQL development standards and enforce secure coding practices; maintain documentation for database schemas, business logic, and workflows.
- Participate in code reviews and mentor other application developers as needed.
- Maintain technical knowledge of current and emerging multi‑cloud developments and assess opportunities to incorporate new trends into strategies.
- Work with third‑party support teams (on‑shore and off‑shore) and application support teams to educate and guide steady‑state supporting database development technologies.

Education Requirements
- BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
Work Experience
- 7+ years working in IT as an Application Database Developer.
Required Skills
- Played pivotal roles as Application Database Developer and support staff across various database technologies.
- Knowledgeable in database technologies – Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL.
- Solid understanding of relational database concepts; strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems.
- Experience working in manufacturing industry (or similar) to understand data security requirements like ITAR/PCI/PHI/HIPAA/NIST/SOX.
- Effective leadership, organization, and planning skills, with ability to handle changing priorities.
- Excellent communications, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
- Demonstrated track record of on‑time delivery within budget, ability to drive projects to successful conclusion.
- Ability to lead international teams across multiple initiatives spanning various lines of business, geographic borders, time zones, and cultures.
