Sortr Pty Ltd in Pampanga, Philippines, seeks an experienced Solar Electrical Designer to plan, draft and detail PV layouts for residential and commercial projects, placing panels, inverters and BOS on drawings and Nearmap images, in coordination with the Australian engineering team to deliver compliant designs.
You will perform string sizing, voltage and cable sizing calculations, select BOS components, and prepare BOMs and proposals using Bluebeam Revu and OpenSolar.
We are looking for an experienced Solar Electrical Designer to join our Solar Team! You’ll be responsible for planning, drafting, and detailing the placement of solar panels, inverters, batteries, and associated components on architectural / electrical drawings and Nearmap aerial images. The designer will work closely with our Australian engineering team to deliver compliant, efficient, and practical solar PV designs for residential and commercial projects.
Analyse architectural and site plans to determine optimal panel placement and system sizing.
Design accurate solar panel layouts with consideration for shading, roof structure, and electrical efficiency.
Select suitable inverters, batteries, and balance of system (BOS) components.
Perform string sizing, voltage calculations, cable sizing, and equipment selection in line with Australian Standards.
Prepare detailed and professional solar PV system drawings and markups using Bluebeam Revu.
Prepare comprehensive solar proposals using OpenSolar.
Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) using the company’s portal.
Collaborate with the Australian engineering team, managers, and sales representatives to incorporate feedback and successfully complete designs, proposals, and BOMs.
Ensure all designs comply with relevant Australian Standards for solar PV installations (e.g., AS/NZS 5033, AS/NZS 4777, AS/NZS 3000).
Coordinate with the engineering team to address practical installation considerations.
Coordinate with the service team for system troubleshooting following the inverter manufacturer’s manuals.
Provide timely updates on design progress to the team using project management portals.
Conduct self-checks of all design work to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Assist in maintaining design templates and standards to ensure consistent high-quality output.
Support process improvements to enhance design efficiency and quality.
Minimum 1 year experience designing solar PV systems for Australian homes
Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu; experience with OpenSolar and Microsoft Excel
Strong understanding of Australian Standards for solar PV installations (e.g., AS/NZS 5033, AS/NZS 4777, AS/NZS 3000)
Ability to perform string voltage calculations, cable sizing, row spacing, and equipment sizing.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Familiarity with job management tools such as Microsoft Planner
