Job summary

Qualifications

• Proven expertise in demand forecasting, inventory optimization, and S&OP.
• Strong analytical skills with Excel, SQL, Python, or R.

Job Description

Hitachi Rail is seeking an experienced and analytical Senior Supply Chain Planning Manager to lead strategic planning initiatives across our global supply chain network. This role is responsible for optimizing demand and supply planning, inventory management, and Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) processes to improve service levels, operational efficiency, and cost performance.

• Lead the development and execution of end-to-end supply chain planning strategies, including demand planning, supply planning, inventory management, and S&OP.
• Analyze demand patterns, market trends, and operational data to improve forecast accuracy and optimize inventory levels.
• Ensure efficient material flow across manufacturing and distribution networks while balancing service and cost objectives.
• Collaborate with Procurement, Manufacturing, Sales, and Logistics teams to align operational plans with business requirements.
• Support new product introductions, capacity planning, and strategic supply chain initiatives.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean principles and best practices to enhance planning efficiency and responsiveness.
• Evaluate and implement advanced planning tools, systems, and technologies to improve visibility and decision-making across the supply chain.
• Establish and monitor supply chain KPIs, identify performance gaps and risks, and implement corrective actions.
• Prepare and present reports, business insights, and recommendations to senior management.
• Lead, coach, and develop supply chain planning talent while fostering a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
• Master’s degree is an advantage.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in supply chain planning, demand planning, production planning, or inventory management.
• At least 3-5 years of experience in a senior leadership role within a complex manufacturing, industrial, or technology environment.
• Proven expertise in demand forecasting, inventory optimization, production planning, and S&OP processes.
• Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel, SQL, Python, R, or similar data analysis tools.
• Hands-on experience with supply chain planning systems such as SAP APO/IBP, Kinaxis, Blue Yonder (JDA), Oracle SCM, or equivalent platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive and results-oriented approach.
• Experience managing global supply chains and international logistics is highly desirable.
• APICS certification (CPIM, CSCP) or equivalent professional certification is an advantage.
