SUMO Services Corporation is seeking a senior Test Engineer to lead and expand automated testing across our engineering stack in Metro Manila. You will own tests for high-risk financial data flows, build scalable test infrastructure, and act as a quality gatekeeper on pull requests while uplifting the team’s testing capabilities.
The role is hands-on and requires you to implement an end-to-end testing strategy, including a full CI/CD pipeline with GitHub Actions, and to mentor developers in
We're a growing engineering team looking for our first dedicated Test Engineer to lead and expand our automated testing practice. We already have some automated testing in place (for example, regression testing for data extraction), and we're looking for someone to build on that foundation: extending coverage to integration and end-to-end testing, standing up a full CI/CD pipeline, and raising testing standards across the team. This is a hands-on, senior-level role — you won't just coach from the sidelines. You'll write and own tests for our highest-risk systems (including financial/accounting data flows), build integration and end-to-end testing infrastructure, and act as a quality gatekeeper on pull requests, while raising the testing skills of the wider team.
This is a senior, hands-on role for someone with strong engineering experience who has built out testing practices and infrastructure before, and who is comfortable being both an individual contributor and a mentor.
35% — Writing and owning tests directly for our highest-risk areas (approval workflows, accounting/financial data exports)
25% — Reviewing pull requests and gatekeeping test quality, especially for critical flows
20% — Regression testing, smoke testing, and release-level checks — expanding our existing regression coverage (currently focused on data extraction) to more areas of the system
20% — Coaching developers and building shared infrastructure: CI/CD pipeline, test frameworks, standards, and checklists
Design and implement our CI/CD pipeline using GitHub Actions, including branch protection so tests must pass before merge
Build integration and end-to-end test infrastructure (e.g., Testcontainers, Playwright or Cypress)
Write and maintain automated tests for our most critical business flows, including approval workflows and financial/accounting data exports
Define and enforce testing standards across the team, including deliberate failure-path and fault-injection testing
Review pull requests for test coverage and quality on critical systems
Establish and maintain a regression suite, plus smoke tests for post-deployment sanity checks
Mentor our engineering team on writing effective unit, integration, and end-to-end tests
Introduce security and performance/load testing as the team matures
Report on testing health and coverage to engineering leadership
5+ years of software engineering or test engineering experience, with significant hands-on automated testing work
Proven experience building or significantly expanding a CI/CD pipeline, ideally with GitHub Actions
Strong experience with integration testing (e.g., containerized test environments such as Testcontainers) and end-to-end testing tools (Playwright, Cypress, or similar)
Comfortable reading and writing code in our stack: [Backend language/framework], [Frontend framework]
Track record of growing and scaling automated testing practices on an engineering team
Strong communication and mentoring skills — you'll be reviewing others' work and teaching, not just writing tests solo
Experience testing systems handling sensitive or financial data is a strong plus
Experience with security testing or performance/load testing
Experience in fintech, accounting software, or another regulated/high-stakes data domain
Familiarity with contract testing for service-to-service integrations
