Job summary

London Stock Exchange Group is seeking a Manager‑Market Supervision to co‑lead oversight of the LSE's 24x5 extended trading hours. You will monitor real‑time and post‑trade activity, ensuring orderly trading, compliance with rules, and rapid response during non‑UK hours.

The role requires experience in market supervision, strong regulatory knowledge (MiFID/MiFIR/MAR), and adept leadership under time‑critical conditions. Collaboration with member firms and cross‑functional teams is essential.

Qualifications

  • Essential qualifications include: Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in market supervision, trading venue operations, compliance, risk, front‑office trading, surveillance, exchange operations or a similar regulated financial markets environment.
  • Strong understanding of secondary market trading, market structure, trading rules, order and trade lifecycle, and venue control frameworks.
  • Experience managing or escalating live market events, such as trading halts, disorderly trading conditions, trade cancellations, technical incidents or participant issues.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable regulation relevant to UK and European trading venues, including MiFID, MiFIR and MAR.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage workflow and maintain effective decision‑making in time‑critical situations.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to interact confidently with member firms, technology, operations, compliance, legal, risk and senior management.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce concise incident summaries, escalation notes, decision records and regulatory‑ready explanations.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with member firms on supervisory matters, rule application and incident follow‑ups.
  • Identify and escalate unusual trading patterns or potential market abuse indicators.
  • Contribute to future expansion planning for LSE 24 and potential integration with future market infrastructure.

Job description

Market Supervision

Market Supervision forms part of the Market Regulation department which is responsible for regulating all the markets operated by LSE plc (the Recognised Investment Exchange).

Market Supervision is responsible for monitoring secondary market trading on London Stock Exchange ("LSE"), Turquoise Global Holdings Limited ("TGHL") and Turquoise Global Holdings Europe B.V ("TGHE").

The purpose of Market Supervision is to ensure that trading is orderly and efficient, and in compliance with the Exchange’s rules ("the rules") and to identify activity which may indicate market abuse as outlined in the UK Financial Conduct Authority’s Code of Market Conduct and MAR.

The role reports into the Head of Market Supervision.

Purpose of the role

This role will be responsible for co‑leading and managing Market Supervision coverage for LSE’s 24x5 extended trading model, ensuring that trading remains orderly, efficient and compliant with the relevant trading venue rules during non‑UK working hours.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

The role will include some or all of the following:

  • Lead and manage real‑time and post‑trade supervision of LSE 24 activity ensuring effective oversight of trading behaviour, market quality, system events and participant activity.
  • Act as a senior Market Supervision presence during non‑UK working hours, providing experienced judgement and management of trading halts, trade cancellations, potential disorderly trading conditions and other market events.
  • Drive the development, testing and continuous improvement of procedures, playbooks and escalation paths for overnight and cross‑time‑zone supervision.
  • Provide senior input into surveillance coverage, controls calibration, market event handling and operational readiness for LSE 24.
  • Support readiness activity ahead of launch, including scenario testing, dress rehearsals, incident simulations, communication templates, regulatory evidence packs and lessons‑learned processes.
  • Interact with member firms and market participants on supervisory matters, including rule application, trade queries, incident follow‑up and requests for information.
  • Identify, investigate and elevate unusual trading patterns or potential market abuse indicators, including preparation of appropriate internal analysis and potential regulatory referral materials.
  • Contribute to future expansion planning for LSE 24, including any broadening beyond the initial ETP scope, further operating model refinement, and potential interaction with future digital market infrastructure.
Qualifications and experience

Essential qualifications include:

  • Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in market supervision, trading venue operations, compliance, risk, front‑office trading, surveillance, exchange operations or a similar regulated financial markets environment.
  • Strong understanding of secondary market trading, market structure, trading rules, order and trade lifecycle, and venue control frameworks.
  • Experience managing or escalating live market events, such as trading halts, disorderly trading conditions, trade cancellations, technical incidents or participant issues.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Experience supervising ETPs, RFQ models, quote‑driven markets, bilateral settlement or extended‑hours trading.
  • Familiarity with surveillance tools, trading platforms, incident management tools and large trading datasets.
  • Understanding of US and APAC market dynamics, including retail‑driven flow, overnight liquidity conditions and out‑of‑hours market event risk.
