Job summary

Compass is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer Java (Contractor through Deel) to help design and deliver cloud-based, event-driven microservices in a startup-like engineering environment. You will work across the full real estate tech stack, improving scalability and reliability of core services.

Proven 7+ years of Java development, strong English communication, and hands-on experience with AWS/Azure/GCP, containers, and CI/CD are required. This remote role offers autonomy and global collaboration.

Qualifications

• BS in CS or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of software engineering experience with Java.
• Fluent English is required.
• Experience designing and building cloud-based services.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Experience with containerization, microservices, and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Design and build distributed, event-driven microservices.
• Lead delivery of complex projects across multiple engineers.
• Perform code reviews, design reviews, and write high quality tests.
• Create documentation: diagrams, service descriptions, runbooks.
• Own and improve services across their lifecycle.
