Job summary

Weekday is seeking a hands-on Platform Engineer – Data (SDE-3 / Staff) to own a large-scale, billion-row shared data platform. You will design, build, and operate foundational systems used by product and engineering teams, driving architecture while staying close to code and operations.

You will work with open-lakehouse foundations (Iceberg/Delta/Hudi), batch/streaming ingestion, and orchestration across Kubernetes and workflows.

Qualifications

7+ years of software or platform engineering experience with SDE-3 / Staff-level ownership and impact.
Hands-on experience owning a shared data platform in production, not just building pipelines.
Strong expertise in distributed-systems design and production-grade software development using Python, Java, Go, or Scala.

Responsibilities

Build and evolve data lakehouse foundations using Iceberg, Delta Lake, or Hudi, including table lifecycle management and schema evolution.
Design and operate batch and streaming ingestion systems, including CDC and data contracts.
Develop platform services and self-service capabilities for engineering teams to manage data independently.
Build and manage orchestration across Kubernetes and workflow tools like Prefect, Argo, or Airflow.
Establish metadata, lineage, governance, data quality, and observability across the platform.
Own production reliability, incident response, SLAs, data freshness, and cost optimization.
Set engineering standards and patterns to scale the platform across teams.
