Job summary

Oportun is seeking a Sr. Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data platforms.

You will lead data architecture decisions, develop robust ETL pipelines, and collaborate with data scientists and analysts to translate complex business needs into reliable data solutions. You will mentor engineers, participate in code reviews, and drive data quality, governance, and performance monitoring across our cloud-based data stack (Python, Spark, SQL, Databricks, AWS).

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering with focus on data architecture, ETL, and database management.
• Proficiency in Python/PySpark and Java or Scala.
• Expertise in big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka; strong SQL skills across relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience building complex end-to-end data pipelines and data integrations in cloud environments.
• Familiarity with Databricks and data services on AWS/Azure/GCP; ability to design scalable data solutions and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of scalable data architectures to meet analytical needs.
• Design and develop data pipelines, ETL processes, and data integration for large-scale data.
• Oversee databases, data warehouses, and data lakes for performance and integrity.
• Establish data quality standards, governance, and documentation of data assets.
