Job summary

SMEC (an SJ Group company) is seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer in Manila to lead bridge design and analysis. You will manage multiple tasks, guide junior engineers, and coordinate with geotechnical, roadway and construction teams to ensure compliant, value-engineered solutions.

The role requires 8+ years in bridge or structural design, a Civil Engineering degree, and proficiency in MIDAS and STAAD.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s degree is a plus.
• Licensed/registered Civil Engineer with 8+ years in bridge/structural design.
• Proficiency in structural software such as MIDAS and STAAD.
• Strong knowledge of geotechnical principles, materials and construction methods.
• Excellent technical writing, communication and coordination skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design of bridges, viaducts, retaining structures and other civil elements.
• Perform detailed calculations for superstructures, foundations and loads.
• Prepare and review design reports, drawings, specs and cost estimates.
• Apply design standards (AASHTO, Eurocode, local codes) and conduct value engineering.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead internal design workshops.

Responsibilities

Technical Design & Analysis

• Lead the structural analysis and design of bridges, viaducts, retaining structures, and other civil structures.
• Perform detailed calculations for superstructures, substructures, foundations, seismic and wind loading, and load ratings.
• Prepare and review technical design reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Apply relevant design standards (e.g., AASHTO, Eurocode, DPWH, other local codes).
• Conduct constructability and value engineering reviews to optimize design solutions.

Project Delivery & Coordination

• Manage and deliver multiple bridge design tasks within scope, budget, and schedule.
• Coordinate with geotechnical, roadway, drainage, utilities, and construction teams.
• Support project managers in scope development, risk assessments, and project planning.
• Participate in client meetings, technical discussions, and design reviews.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

• Implement and enforce quality control procedures for design deliverables.
• Ensure all designs meet safety requirements, regulatory approvals, and industry best practices.
• Review and validate work completed by junior engineers and CAD experts.

Leadership & Mentoring

• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to junior engineers and project staff.
• Lead internal design workshops, technical training, and knowledge‑sharing sessions.
• Support team development and participate in performance evaluations as required.
