Job summary

SMEC is seeking an experienced Civil/Structural engineer to lead bridge design and analysis across multiple projects. The role requires ensuring compliance with relevant standards, mentoring junior staff, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient structures.

Applicants should hold a Civil Engineering degree, prefer a Master’s, be a licensed engineer, and bring 8+ years in bridge/structural design with MIDAS or STAAD proficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Master’s Degree an advantage.
  • Licensed/registered Civil Engineer.
  • 8+ years of experience in bridge or structural design.
  • Proficiency in MIDAS and STAAD structural software.
  • Understanding of geotechnical principles, materials and construction methods.
  • Strong writing, communication and coordination skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural analysis and design of bridges, viaducts and other civil structures.
  • Perform detailed calculations for superstructures, foundations and loading.
  • Prepare and review design reports, drawings, specs and cost estimates.
  • Apply design standards (AASHTO, Eurocode, DPWH and local codes).
  • Mentor junior engineers and CAD staff; participate in design reviews.
  • Coordinate with geotechnical, roadway, drainage and construction teams.

Responsibilities:
Technical Design & Analysis
  • Lead the structural analysis and design of bridges, viaducts, retaining structures, and other civil structures.
  • Perform detailed calculations for superstructures, substructures, foundations, seismic and wind loading, and load ratings.
  • Prepare and review technical design reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Apply relevant design standards (e.g., AASHTO, Eurocode, DPWH, other local codes).
  • Conduct constructability and value engineering reviews to optimize design solutions.
Project Delivery & Coordination
  • Manage and deliver multiple bridge design tasks within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Coordinate with geotechnical, roadway, drainage, utilities, and construction teams.
  • Support project managers in scope development, risk assessments, and project planning.
  • Participate in client meetings, technical discussions, and design reviews.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Implement and enforce quality control procedures for design deliverables.
  • Ensure all designs meet safety requirements, regulatory approvals, and industry best practices.
  • Review and validate work completed by junior engineers and CAD experts.
Leadership & Mentoring
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to junior engineers and project staff.
  • Lead internal design workshops, technical training, and knowledge‑sharing sessions.
  • Support team development and participate in performance evaluations as required.
Key Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Master’s Degree an advantage.
  • Licensed/registered Civil Engineer
  • 8+ years of experience in bridge or structural engineering design.
  • Strong proficiency in structural software (e.g., MIDAS, STAAD).
  • Solid understanding of geotechnical principles, materials engineering, and construction methods.
