Job summary

SMEC (An SJ Group Company) in the Philippines is seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer to join our Design & Analysis team. You will contribute to design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and related structures, performing analysis and preparing calculations.

You will work with MIDAS Civil and STAAD, develop drawings in AutoCAD and Revit, and support QA/QC, site visits, and preparation of design reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s preferred.
• Licensed/registered Civil Engineer.
• 8+ years of experience in bridge or structural engineering design.
• Strong proficiency in structural software such as MIDAS and STAAD.
• Excellent writing, communication, and coordination skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design & analysis of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and ancillary structures.
• Prepare design calculations for gravity loads, live loads, wind, seismic, and thermal effects.
• Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design packages (plans, sections, details).
• Perform quantity take-offs and assist in BOQ preparation.
• Support value engineering and alternative studies (e.g., steel vs. concrete options).
• Apply relevant codes under supervision (AASHTO LRFD, Eurocodes, BS, DPWH and local manuals).
• Follow QA/QC procedures, maintain calculation books, and file management standards.
• Draft technical notes, design reports, and basis-of-design summaries.
• Develop and update structural models in MIDAS Civil, STAAD; produce drawings in AutoCAD, Revit.
• Support shop drawing reviews, RFIs, submittals, and method statement checks.
• Participate in site visits and inspections; prepare field notes and photo logs.
• Track design changes and update as-built information.
• Support condition inspections, load ratings, and life-cycle assessments for existing bridges.
