Job summary

Red Engineering Design seeks a highly experienced Senior BIM Technician – MEP to lead the modeling, coordination, and documentation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across complex building and infrastructure projects.

This position requires advanced BIM expertise, a deep understanding of MEP systems, and the ability to mentor junior staff, drive innovation, and ensure high-quality digital delivery across project lifecycles.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Architecture or related field.
• 5–8+ years of BIM modeling/coordination experience, with 4+ years in leadership roles.
• Advanced proficiency in Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Navisworks and BIM 360.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of detailed 3D BIM models for MEP systems using Revit MEP and other BIM tools.
• Oversee creation of coordinated 2D documentation including layouts, schematics, sections, and details.

Job description

Highly experienced and technically proficient Senior BIM Technician – MEP to lead the modeling, coordination, and documentation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across complex building and infrastructure projects. This role requires advanced BIM expertise, a deep understanding of MEP systems, and the ability to mentor junior staff, drive innovation, and ensure high-quality digital delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Advanced BIM Modeling & Documentation

• Lead the development of detailed and accurate 3D BIM models for MEP systems using Revit MEP and other BIM tools.
• Produce and oversee the creation of coordinated 2D documentation including layouts, schematics, sections, and details.
• Ensure all models and drawings meet project-specific LOD requirements and comply with BIM standards and protocols.
• Act as the primary technical lead for MEP BIM coordination on assigned projects.
• Facilitate and lead coordination meetings with internal teams and external consultants.
• Manage clash detection processes using Navisworks or similar tools, and ensure timely resolution of issues.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

• Conduct in-depth model audits and quality control reviews to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project and industry standards.
• Maintain drawing registers, revision logs, and ensure proper documentation of all changes.
• Support the implementation and enforcement of BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) and project-specific workflows.
• Mentor and guide junior and intermediate BIM technicians, providing training and technical support.
• Review and approve BIM deliverables prepared by junior staff, ensuring quality and consistency.
• Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the BIM team.
• Explore and implement automation tools (e.g., Dynamo, Python scripts) to enhance modeling efficiency and reduce manual tasks.
• Support integration of BIM with 4D (scheduling), 5D (cost estimation), and 6D (facilities management) processes.
• Contribute to the development of digital twins, smart building systems, and sustainability-focused BIM applications.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

• Collaborate with clients, consultants, and contractors to align BIM deliverables with project goals and expectations.
• Participate in client presentations, workshops, and design reviews to demonstrate BIM capabilities and progress.
• Provide technical input and support during tendering, construction, and handover phases.

Content & Standards Development

• Develop and maintain BIM content libraries, templates, and parametric families for MEP systems.
• Contribute to the evolution of company BIM standards and best practices.
• Assist in the evaluation and implementation of new BIM tools and technologies.

Qualifications:

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Architecture, or a related field.
• 5–8+ years of experience in BIM modeling and coordination with at least 4 years in a leadership capacity, with a strong focus on MEP systems.
• Advanced proficiency in Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and BIM 360 (or Autodesk Construction Cloud).
• Strong understanding of MEP systems, construction sequencing, and interdisciplinary coordination.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with Dynamo, Python scripting, or other automation tools.
• Knowledge of local and international MEP codes and regulations.
• Experience working on large-scale commercial, healthcare, or infrastructure projects.
• Exposure to digital twin, smart building, or sustainability-focused BIM applications.
