Job summary

EPAM Systems is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to drive the backend on our Internal Developer Platform (IDP) built on Backstage. You will own the catalog, scaffolder, workflows, and APIs, ensuring scalable, reliable services and strong security across the platform.

You will integrate with Git, CI/CD, Kubernetes, and Argo Workflows, mentoring peers and shaping best practices in a global team.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of relevant backend experience.
• Strong experience in Node.js/TypeScript backend development.
• Hands-on Backstage experience including backend plugins and API development.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of Backstage backend plugins and services to support platform capabilities.
• Own backend architecture for the catalog, scaffolder, workflows, and APIs, ensuring scalability and reliability.
• Build integrations with Git, CI/CD systems, Kubernetes, and Argo Workflows to streamline platform operations.
• Design and implement developer workflows and automation pipelines to improve engineering efficiency.
• Implement RBAC, authentication, and service-to-service security to protect platform resources and data.
• Drive the design and evolution of scalable microservices architecture.
• Mentor engineers and guide the adoption of best practices across the team.

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to drive backend development of our Internal Developer Platform (IDP) built on Backstage. The role focuses on building scalable services, developer workflows, and platform integrations.Responsibilities

• Lead the development of Backstage backend plugins and services to support platform capabilities
• Own backend architecture for the catalog, scaffolder, workflows, and APIs, ensuring scalability and reliability
• Build integrations with tools such as Git, CI/CD systems, Kubernetes, and Argo Workflows to streamline platform operations
• Design and implement developer workflows and automation pipelines to improve engineering efficiency
• Implement RBAC, authentication, and service-to-service security to protect platform resources and data
• Drive the design and evolution of scalable microservices architecture

Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
• Strong experience in Node.js/TypeScript backend development
• Hands-on experience with Backstage, including backend plugins and API development
• Experience building APIs and microservices for scalable platform solutions
• Good understanding of Kubernetes and containerized environments
• Experience with Argo Workflows or similar workflow and orchestration tools
• Excellent English communication skills (B2 level or higher)

Nice to have

• Experience with CI/CD practices to support automated build, test, and deployment processes
• Familiarity with GitHub Actions for automating workflows and pipelines
• Knowledge of platform engineering principles to support the design of scalable internal developer platforms
• Understanding of authentication/authorization protocols, such as OAuth and SSO
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL or similar databases for data storage and management
